Jigged Bone Kopa "de-clipped" by STR

    Before...

    After...

A couple of the other side...

This one will see some serious pocket time. I can't thank Steve enough for this. With the clip, that knife was cause for depression, without the clip, it's cause for joy.

Looks great! STR does some real nice work IIRC I believe I read that same thing here as well, about never doing this mod ever again after the last time

I guess if enough time passes anyone can forget how bad something was before

    Wow !

That is a very neat job by Steve. Looks a bit different to the Coco one he did earlier. No hiding of the pins/ screws, and it complements the look of the rest of the blade.

Time for me to get another Jiggy Bone so I can contemplate sending her over to Steve.

I gather this will compete for pocket time with the rest of the Kiwi flock ?

    Paul,

Looks real good. Steve did a great job. I do like those without clips I mist admit. I'm really starting to like the stacked wood ones coming out but this model really grows on ya. Yet another one that I want to pick up at some point.

    Thanks for the pics.

    Thumbs up

    Congrats Paul

Very nicely done. STR must have had a PITA time keeping that bolster so clean on the clip side.

I think Sal mentioned somewhere he was concidering bringing out a clip-less Kopa version.....

    Thanks folks.

Yes, Steve did an excellent job on it and yes again that he'd sworn he'd never do another. I don't think he'd forgotten that either. I think the fact that I'm one of his older customers may have had something to do with him agreeing to do this one. I also made it clear to him that I understood the amount of time and effort a job like this took were much greater than merely looking at the result would lead one to believe, and was prepared to pay what the job was worth. That too may have been a factor. I keep recalling a comment Sal once made that the reason the Spyderkeys were discontinued was that building one was just a time consuming as building a full size knife, but very few were willing to pay for that.

Daniel, think the lighting may may the blind screws look more noticeable than the really are. And yes, it's already competing for pocket time, I carried it today.

David, yes, the stacked wood is another very attractive handle material.

Fred, what can I say. I carry two knives nearly every day. The small one rides in the watch/change pocket of my jeans, the larger in my left rear pocket. Neither pocket has anything except the knife in it, ever. Been carrying that way for over 50 years and have not lost one yet. I can understand your point, but there have also been more than a few reports of clipped knives being lost when they snagged on something.

As for the clip, it's probably in Steve's parts drawer. I don't really think it would work on a Kiwi. First, it's just too big. Second, it would require milling a pocket in the Kiwi's bolster like that on the Kopa's, to provide a flat surface for mounting. The only type clip that "might" work on a Kiwi would be along the lines of the one on a CRK Mnandi. It mounts with a single screw to attach the clip and a stud to prevent it from rotating.

Maarten, yes, I'm not sure which he worried about more, the risk of messing up the bolster, or that of messing up the bone.

Sal has mentioned at least the possibility of a run of clipless Kopas, but I'm an impatient old coot. Plus, there's still the chance that, like the bolster and scales version of the Navigator II, it will never happen. Or, given the way my luck with new models has been running lately, that it will have foliage green G-10 scales and have to be sent out for an emergency scale transplant.

wow, that looks really good w/o the clip. How heavy is it in your pocket though? You carry it in your back pocket?

Carry it where I normally carry a Kiwi, in my watch pocket. Weight is 74 grams by my scale, which makes it just under 1.5 times the weight of a 52 gram jigged bone Kiwi. That's quite noticeable when the knife is in my hand, but not at all so when its in my pocket.
