How to disable the "Spydie Drop" ability on a Yojimbo?

    Hey all
I would like to disable the "spydie drop" ability of my Yojimbo and was wondering if anyone has done this and/or can give me some pointers, I really don't want to mess my Yo up as it is my new Holies of the Holy Grails.

Currently, it 'spydie drops' open waaaay to easily and it makes me a little uncomfortable. I would like it such that it can't be flipped open via 'the drop', yet allow for easy one handed opening via the hole..

Outside of tightening the pivot with a Torx driver, I don't know how you'd do that.

My D'Allara Drop Point used to open way too easy, so tightening the pivot slowed down the opening while keeping the same, silky action.

If you don't have Torx drivers and don't want to spend a fortune, get the "Husky" 6-in-1 set at Home Depot. It's one of the best driver sets for folding knives out there only without the high price tag of similar quality sets or shoddy construction of similar priced sets.

Thanks thombrogan. I'll give it a shot. Would I need 2 Torx drivers to do this (one to tighten, a second to hold in place the other side?).

Do be aware that Spyderco pivot screws are not immune to damage. They are, in fact, fairly easy to damage (snap) by overtightening. You'd be better off looking for a Ronin. Another option might be replacing the washers with ones intentionally scuffed, deformed, or otherwise "engineered" to have extremely high drag. Never tried it, but in theory it should work. Of course that would work best if the knife was intended as a dedicated SD tool, and never used for anything else.

The Yojimbo, along with (in the next week or so) the Lava are my EDCs. I like the Ronin but don't have one and am not really in the market for one right now (Just got a Street beat as my FB of choice). Thanks for the heads up on damaging the pivots, I'm not the "handiest" guy around so swapping out the washers and replacing them eith older ones, or scuffed ones sounds a bit daunting to me. Do they make washers engineered to have high drag? Is this something I should just call Spyderco central about?

You'd probably be better off talking to someone like STR. Spyderco does not do "custom shop" type mods.

STR is Steve Rice. He makes knives, fixes knives, and makes other knives better. He's also on this very forum.

I can't remember if two drivers would be needed for the Yojimbo. It's been a while.

STR is a maker who is known for his mods.

    He resides on Bladeforums.com

Just make an account and check out his handiwork. He has done some beautiful modifications on Spydies.

I just looked at mine, you will need two drivers.
