    Question CLB question...

Heya guys. I'm a huge fan of the Lava, and I've been wondering... what do the 3 dots around the CLB logo stand for? I'm assuming they mean something, and I'd really like to know what. Thanks in advance!

Aaaaaah, there can never be enough high praise for the Lava

So far as the three dots: I haven't the foggiest idea, but knowing Chad there's probably some meaning. After all, every aspect of each of his designs has a purpose

    Aloha LeeCQC,

Three dots? What three dots? Whoa, there's even "three dots" above the "confused smiley"! Well, the three "dots" stand for, "Larry, Moe, and Curly"...no, actually it stands for, "Groucho, Harpo, and Chico Marx". No, no...okay, line up the third dot with the third star on Orion's Belt, loudly demand for a hot butterscotch sundae on rye bread, and then...no, no, no...okay...to appease Jeff, it means:

"BUTTER, BUTTER, and more BUTTER!" (GREAT seeing you Jeff!)

PM sent LeeCQC. And uh, Brian...shame on you bro.

    @Starling, howzit!!!

    God bless

Likewise, Knifebrutter! And it's great to be back!

As if the Lava wasn't great enough already, I'm deeply honored to know it wears a reminder of my favorite lipoprotein

Three dots ? what three... ohhhh

Well they look good from a graphic design point of view, that's why they are there. Otherwise it is for divine intervention if the knife don't cut well enough

In all seriousness folks. I am not kidding in saying that those who have the Lava think very very very highly of it. It is probably (and IMHO) the best CLB designed blade out there.... even more so than the ubiquitous Biscuit variants and their close cousins the Trance, M-Type etc.

Sal, you know you want to create this one in full SE don't you ? You know you do... so c'mon and let us in on a batch of them. While you are at it I know there is plenty of screaming for some micarta Lava's, and also for some Orange or Red G10 Lava goodness If you do manage to have some spare FG or Rescue Orange G10 from the Delica and UKPK runs, would you mind running some Lava's out for us all to get our teeth into pleeeeease

C'mon everyone, let's ask Sal really nicely and give him loads of positive energy so that we can see Chad's design with lots of dots stay with us for longer. Certainly Sal do NOT disco it next year.

    Cheers

In order for variations of a model to be made, the design must first be selling well.

In order for a model to not be disco'd, the design must be selling well.

Therefore, if we want variations and/or don't want it disco'd...

The only reason i don't have a Lava is for it's SS handle.
I m not to fond of SS handles. If they make a mircata or G10 version in the future i will take one.

Hey Chad i thought these 3 dots was your code for communication to future extra-terrestrial customers... LOL

As a lefty, and someone who finds the Spyderhole to be the only reliable one hand opener, I have to agree most whole-heartedly on that.

Wish you the best, but can't say there's one single one of the flavors you mentioned that I'd get excited over. Now if you were talking nice wood or jigged bone scales behind a stainless front bolster, they might begin to rival my Kiwis in number.

    Paul,

Personally I would also like to see some really nicely figured hardwoods and some boned Lavas being pushed out. But to be fair to the 'tactical' design of the blade I am almost certain that the finishes on it would have to be based on that particular premise. As far as strapping some wood to both sides, I would love to see Jigged Bone, Snakewood, Desert Ironwood, Olivewood , Balsa :O hahaha just kidding..... A gentlemanly take on the Lava would be an excellent counterpoint to bring it 'back into line' so to speak.

As lefties and righties will know, the Lava is just magic in the hands, almost an extension of it and in some respects true to the mantra of the Stretch.... it is an extension of the hand, albeit only a small but stout one.

Bring it on ! C'mon guys, this thread has gone from being about the 3 dots to me blowing the trumpet of our good mate Chadley

I hear you Dan, would bet money any of the versions you proposed in your original post would sell better than my personal wet dream would. Just saying what it would take to get my juices flowing. Plus, from a purely logical standpoint, the current Lava works because the handle fits your hand so well that "traction" becomes a relative non-issue and neither jigged bone or wood would offer any less of it.

Regarding Balsa, some of it has very attractive grain pattern and if properly stabilized it could be an interesting choice.

As for the three dots - three seashells perhaps? (Anyone else here a fan of Demolition Man )
