I've been eyeing some Eucalyptus on eBay. Looks like it makes a beautiful scale material. Fantastic work as always!

I've been planning this particular combination for some time and finally got the necessary materials to get it done. The Super Blue name made me think of Superman, perhaps appropriately known as the "Man of Steel". So I decided to do a Super Blue: Man of Steel edition theme. Red G-10 bolsters, blue G-10 handle, yellow liners, metal "Superman" shield on glowing background. I forced a patina with vinegar on the handle and then cut up a bunch of things to give it a nice patina on the blade. Wow, this slices like a beast!

I'm sort of happy with how it turned out, but wish the cutout for the Superman logo was cleaner (I just drilled some holes and then used hand files to shape the cutout). I need to fill in around the edges of the logo so junk doesn't get in below the insert. The glow powder ended up looking a bit chunky after mixing it and brushing it on (as you can see in the last picture), so I probably should have gotten GITD paint with less texture to it.

I've already got a few ideas for my next concept knife (probably will go on my Cobalt Special Mule), but unlike the Superman shield that I put on this (which I found a nice quality one on eBay), I may have to have someone machine something for the next one as I've been unable to source a pre-made piece that fits my needs. It takes some planning and work, so I'll probably make some regular handles in the meantime for my other Mules while I get the details figured out.

One of the coolest knives I have ever seen. Great work!

Ted and Jabba, I don't anticipate doing anything like this in the foreseeable future, but I just want to let you know that I really appreciate it when you give all the details like this, of how you do your work. I'm sure it's a great help to a lot of beginners, because the basics are frequently left unmentioned when people show their work, and there are so many ways to attempt this sort of thing, a little elementary information is always appreciated..

My first mule, k390. The handle is some spalted maple my father-in-law gave me. I stabilized the handle using the tutorial from northcoastknives. The pins are brass and the lanyard tube is a 3/8 bronze sleeve bearing.

These things are such a pain to acquire. I can't find them anywhere.

Thanks! There are a few things I wish I had done a little differently, but overall I'm happy with it.

Nice job. It looks like it has a lightning bolt running down the center.

Cheers. I wasn't sure about it but it's what the client wanted - I like it now it's in place!

I think it's very intriguing -- can you, or would you care to, tell us anything about the treatment or finish of the blade or handle?

The custom mule handles are great but Halpern is fully stocked for those who don't have the time or inclination to make their own. We have been working for weeks to get our web site totally friendly to all Mule team followers. The last step as been to get a secure set for a complete transaction on our site with all major credit cards.
Everything listed( includes carbon, Micarta, rosewood and G10 of. Course). They all come oiled and ready to attach.
    There are 25 possible purchases!
We've added 4 Swick handles today.
The site should be LIVE Monday afternoon.
I'm expecting a huge response, so please hang on for a week if you haven't gotten a tracking number from me. You'll get a message that we it your order. When you get the USPS tracing, they are on the way.
I've worked through glitches I've spotte- please let me know if something is not working.
It's been fun getting this launched. It's our first shopping cart. It seemed like we had to go that route or you.
Time for the Super Bowl. Spyderco fans going for Denver??
