Question any iPod owners out there?

    http://regmedia.co.uk/2007/09/11/app..._classic_1.jpg

I was thinking of picking up one of these and wanted to get
    some feedback form you forumites.

I also had a couple of questions : more importantly, are these
merely an mp3 player? And can one load mp3 files onto them?

I used to look at the piles of cds and decided one of these iPods
might be a good enviromental ( as in my enviroment ) alternative.

    What say the augurers?

i have 2...they work fine...depending on how many cd's or songs you will end up having should dictate how many gigs you go with... i have 3228 songs for a total space of 14.29 gigs....also the new ones can play video which will eat up more space.

I have a 5th gen Video iPod. I love it. Never leave home without it! It's 20 GB and it's full, but I only listen to about 1/4 of the material on there, the rest is just in case I have a hankering to listen to something that's not usually in my car/stereo.

I have the first generation video ipod. It works great I've had it just about three years and never had any problems with it. I dont wear it when I run or work out, but I have friends who have worn theirs working out and none of them had any problems.
Also, I know it's expensive but my brother in law has the new ipod touch, that thing is sweet, but like I said the video ipods you can get now pretty cheap at places like Costco and Walmart are great as well.
Enjoy it, it's sooo much more portable than an old school CD player.

I have an older model, 4-gig Nano. It works great! If you want convenience, this is it!

I have a shuffle and a touch, both work great. If you are just looking for an mp3 player, the classic is great. If you are looking for an mp3 player + a mini pda, the touch is the way to go especially with the updates that just came out.

I have a 5th Gen Video 30g and a 2nd gen 1g Shuffle. They are great. I never go anywhere with out one. I really like the new classic but I can not justify buying one since mine are still good to go. I don't think you will be disappointed. The shuffle is great for hiking. small and still hold quite a few songs.

Here's a site you may want to look at once you decide which iPod to buy.
It gives you a good idea were a particular model is in it's product cycle so you don't buy one if it's overdue for an update (based on previous releases)

I've got an i-pod nano for x-mas last year.It is pretty cool.
I burned a greatest hits mix from a good part of my cd
collection.Sound quality is OK. Probaly should use a higher
sampling rate though.I think the default is 128kbs,256 will
sound better, but you won't be able to get as many songs
on the i-pod.I downloaded a couple of songs off of i-tunes
and Was Not impressed with the sound quality at all.
You can tell which songs were downloaded compared to the
ones I burned from my cd collection!

If you listen with the earphones do yourself a favor and
invest in a better quality set than what comes with the
    i-pod.Makes a BIG difference.Bose makes a good set of
    in-ear phones for about a $100.

Oh, and yes the i-pod is a MP3 player!!

    I am still a big fan of sony's mini-disc format.The sound quality
is Much better than MP3's.But it seems that the mini-disc format
is headed down the same path as Sony's beta-max video tapes.
Yes,I had a Beta video tape system too.

    hi Allen,

the ipod is nothing more than a portable hard drive. as such, it can store data, .mp3 files, video...the thing i don't like about it is that the rechargable battery has a finite number of times it can be discharged/recharged, and then you have to throw the whole ipod away...no way to replace the battery, and this is by design, of course ...however, it may take awhile to do this, depending on how you use it.

    ipods are cool...i have 2!

I second the suggestion about buying aftermarket earphones!

    Agent Starling ;

Say it isn't so! You mean you $pend say $200 for the damn thing
and after awhile you gotta throw it away!?! BTW : what is a "finite" number
    of times? 300hrs? 3,000hrs?

As Tony said you can replace the battery very cheap now but they do last quite some time. my 30G video I have had for almost 2 1/2 years and I still get a full 11 hours per charge (playing music only). And I use it every day and charge it every day. So I really wouldnt let that be a deal breaker for getting one.

I have the same model as tank, and use/charge it in the same manner. I also get 7-11 hours of use out of my ipod, on a full charge. The usage depends on if I'm watching movies or listening to music or a combination. If it's music only I reliably get 10-11 hours on one full charge.

Call me cheep, I have 3 iPod shuffles (first generation). Love them all, they're for different stuff: music, books, and podcasts.

They really help to smooth me out and avoid getting irritated at the cows in my way when I drive.
