    Pic Request: Hawkbill Comparisons

Could someone post some pics of different Spyderco hawkbills together. I would like to see the size difference between the Harpy/Merlin and Tasman Salt (I think they are different). As well, maybe thrown in some Spyderhawks and what not.

    Thanks a lot.

I can't really help here, other than saying that the Harpy, Merlin, and Tasman are all the exact same size. Think of the Tasman simply as the Merlin in H1.

I'm sure Agent Starling will make an appearance shortly.

Well thats what I thought, but then I saw the specs in the online catalogue:

    HARPY
    length overall 6 1/2" (165 mm) blade length 2 3/4" (70 mm) blade steel VG-10 length closed 3 7/8" (99 mm) cutting edge 1 9/16" (65 mm) weight 3.75 oz (106 g) hole diameter 15/32" (12 mm) blade thickness 1/8" (3 mm) handle material Stainless Steel

    TASMAN SALT
    length overall 6 13/16" (173 mm) blade length 2 15/16" (75 mm) blade steel H-1 length closed 4" (102 mm) cutting edge 2 1/2" (64 mm) weight 2 oz. (57 g) hole diameter 15/32" (12 mm) blade thickness 3/32" (2.5 mm) handle material FRN

According to these stats, the Tasman is bigger.

It's practically the same size. 1-2-3 mm of difference is not so important, you can even collect 1-2 mm because of the grinding too on the same model... Depending of the photo, you could even think the Harpy is bigger...

Here is a G-10 Harpy and a Merlin, wich is, I think, just like the Tasman. There are a few millimeters of difference in lenght between the two, maybe it seems to be more pronounced because of the Merlin's handle's bigger surface. I hope this will help you, and maybe Peter will make others with the Tasman too.

And a small tutorial: always be aware if the angle is not perpendicular on the knives, especially if you want to compare them. Look at this, the Harpy is much bigger now...

    But now the Merlin boosts...

The Merlin is really an alias for the FRN Harpy...exact same blade!!
