    Stick Fighting Video

I had another esteemed member of the forum *cough* Daywalker *cough* ask for some video on the use of the punyo (butt of the stick). I thought this was an excellent idea, as Chad was dead right when he mentioned that most people don't give the close range use of the butt of the stick the attention it deserves. All of the striking techniques can be as easily accomplished with the butt of a knife, should you be so inclined.

For anyone interested (maybe to include those here who carry an ASP or other baton), here is the link to the video:

Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. I believe you will enjoy the FMAs if you find a good school and instructor, and they are certainly an eye opener for most martial artists when it comes to understanding realistic knife attacks and defenses.

Take care and train hard (if I recall correctly, you recently received a brown belt, which means that now the real fun begins).

The most pain I've ever felt was when I started training Christopher Petrilli's stick compression locks with stick and punyo. Bone locks scream even more than joint locks!

Punyos are great for closed quarters, but overall the most pain i have ever felt with a stick is the FANG CHOKE . Even the next day i could still feel the effects.

    Stay safe and train hard

    Chokes and locks

With many chokes, done the "old school" and combat correct way, you feel almost nothing at all. When you wake up, or actually if you wake up--it depends on which way some of these techniques are applied and some of these are not designed for you to wake up, ever--it often hurts like the devil. Other techniques, due to the location on which they are applied or the particular technique used, hurt intensely and immediately.

Michael, stick or closed folder or other impact weapon compresion techniques can be very painful and effective. Recently one of my students got a bit aggressive in applying a technique I was showing him and gave me a killer bone bruise, and I don't heal like I did when I was 20.

Thanks for the interest in the videos. I posted this punyo video and, a little while ago, some new stuff on the karambit. The next thing out will be some stuff on blitz style attacks. After that, I am undecided as to what to put up on the site. I'll have to see what "moves me," or maybe pop in here and ask for suggestions on what people would like to see.
