    What book are you reading?

I'm currently exploring Michael Scheuer 's Imperial hubris : why
the west is losing the war on terror
. Not political, but a strategic
option by the author. I have the original 2004 edition published under
    "anonymous".

Next will be Erik Hildenger's swords against the senate : the rise of the
Roman army and the fall of the republic
about the latter days of the Roman republic.

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night, in the dusty recesses of their minds, awake in the day to find that it was vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes to make it reality.

Blood and Thunder: The Epic Story of Kit Carson and the Conquest of the American West by Hampton Sides.

Pretty good so far, Sides as a historian is actually pretty readable.

I'm finishing The Teeth of the Tiger by Tom Clancy.
It's not the greatest book ever written, but there are some interesting thoughts...

"The life and times of the Thunderbolt Kid" by Bill Bryson.
Bryson tells about his own childhood in the 50s in Des Moines, Iowa, complete with a humorous and sometimes critical description of the US mindset of that era.
It's also wonderful, good-natured reminiscing, complete with atomic toilets, the rise of TV, being a paperboy, "duck and cover" and many other quirks of the time.

Man, read that one a while back. Pretty crazy stuff. If you like it, you should check out McCarthy's other stuff. Blood Meridian is pretty good, but super violent. The Road is really good. Suttree is good, but very different from his other stuff I have read. It is actually pretty funny at times, not just horrifying all the time like the books listed above. I was on quite the Cormac McCarthy kick a while back.
