    Arrow Replacing confiscated goods...

Awhile back the hospital security at Yale-New Haven Hospital confiscated
my reverse "s" SE Meerkat, and instead of returning it to me after my "stay"
said it was "destroyed" ( right! ). So in the weeks to come I'll replace it -

    http://www.hamonoichiba.com/english/..._NO=SP00000174

I think I'd rather die in the comfort of my home before I ever go to
    a hospital again!

I'm afraid that I would have died right there before I let them take my knife. I'm glad I live out here in the middle of nowhere, people don't panic over knives here.

    :-(

I would never, ever "destroy" someone's property...and I'm a security officer. Such dishonesty reminds me of the news I saw today, where TSA baggage handlers were caught on tape rummaging through peoples bags and stealing their personal items.

May that "destroyed" spydie give whoever took it a very, very nasty bite.

I also live in the middle of nowhere and our hospitals let anyone and everyone have almost free roam of the facilities; also no check-in of knives...most certainly if you had a concealed weapon permit, but definitely not with a knife. You must live in a big city perhaps?

My On-site Security Supervisor actually said that Security work is the lowliest job there is. Considering that Porters have a union, and often make more than Security Guards, I think she's right.

I'd like to say that many of the guards I've met and worked with are upstanding individuals. I'd like to.... but then I'd be lying. I try to do a good job and would never steal a confiscated item, but that's (literally) just me.

Sorry to hear about what happened.

New Haven is a rather medium sized city. Let's put it this way : if Yale
University picked up and moved elsewhere, we'd be dead!

I had to check my knives at the emergency room recently. I made the gaurd write down exactly what he was getting. The next time I came in I left them in the car.

    vague policies...

The thing about all of this is that, on the one hand, I was told
my "property" ( I assumed that meant the meerkat, portable CD player,
wallet, etc. ) would be returned. Then I was told something else later.

Now Yale-New Haven Hospital is out over $30,000 a year from medicare
as a result ( I now "came home to roost" at St. Raphael's Hospital, where
    I was born ( 09/23/62 )).

Just watch if they play any games! I'll go to a private doctor.

Small mindedness co$t$ us ( or them in this case ) dearly.

    Angry Knife stolen; not conficated

The knife was not confiscated; it was STOLEN!! It's just that plain and simple. Not to mention this outright lie about it being destroyed . There is so much of this crap going on now a days that it just really boils my blood. But don't fret Allen because their day is coming and you'll get another knife for sure.

This non sense has to cease. People have just got to start holding these criminals accountable. But I do see signs of hope that is turning around slowly. Best of luck to you Sir. JD

Not to worry. We all have Paul ( the Deacon ) to thank!

As for this "legitimized" piracy of one's property, just think of how
bad Yale-New Haven Hospital is hurting! Losing $30K's gotta hurt!

Don't be small minded. Be a "main framer" Have fun Yale-New Haven

A claim ( later ) of a "no weapons" policy. Previously it was my
    "property".

The Deacon came through on this. I'm not really worried anyway.
    If they "con-fiscated" this one...

    http://youwantit2.com/SPYCRICKETCFSERR.jpg

I'd really be pissed!!!!! $35 meerkat vs. $100 CF SE ( read : difficult to replace )
cricket would've probably caused me to "go postal" on'em!!!

I could've ended up like these unfortunates...

    http://www.upgradetravelbetter.com/w...ated-stuff.jpg

...the owners were criminally charged as well as having their "weapons" taken
( out of their baggage compartment luggage yet! )

That's the thing about private security on a hospital's private
    property
Will V. Property is usually refered to as "...the pursuit of
happiness." constitutionally speaking. A hospital can, within the confines
of it's property get away with such murder.

The way out is to deprive them of public funds ( like the 30K they
were getting from "mediscare" ) in short, the taxpayer wins, I don't
have to deal with that particular hospital anymore & win in the
    end anyway.

    Thanks to the deacon.

As annoying as NC can be I do not have stupid-*** security confiscating my knives. Except at the county courthouse. That was a close one and my fault. The deputy got bitchy but still my fault.

Good thing I do not live in the consititution (sic) state.

I try to not carry 'scary' knives where it might be a problem but some places where it might be a problem are the places I might need them. ALL governmet offices seem to be downtown and not always where you would want to be. Drives me crazy.

BTW, how did they detect your knife? Going in to the hospital is different than visiting? Couldn't give it to a friend to take away from the PC Nazis? I realize a visit to the the hospital is not always planned.

I work in a secure (roll eyes) facility and get a personal wanding evey day. No one cares what I carry in but going out the door is a pocket stripping experience. They even find the mini-binder clip on my break room folding money. The rent-a-cops appriciate my knives and are mostly moon-lighting policemen. County court house cops MUCH LESS so. The occasional violent incedent and/or murder at a court hearing explains that. I sadly agree...

I can think of no less appriciated job than secuity. This is not right.

    Slick -

In Connecticut, the State law provide's that no blade "...to exceed
4"..." is allowed to be carried. Conceivably, one could carry an Endura
in the State. However on private property...

It's like if you didn't want someone doing something in your house,
or like on the forums here ( no religion or politics ).

Hospital security checks everyones property. The 1%er cop just engaged
in some hypocrisy & doublespeak, first the meerkat was part of "my
property" ( and would be returned ) and later became a "weapon" ( and
would be "destroyed" ). "No weapons on hospital property".

I did report the "double standard" policy to Our State's Dept. of
Consumer Protection & one Marna Borgstrom, president / ceo of YNHH.

    www.ynhh.org

One thing I know for sure : Ms. Borgstrom & the board of directors will
miss that 30K a year from medicare!

Hi Allen, sorry to hear about this. The land of the free turns day by day even more red than mother Russia itself
May the one who stole your Meerkat never figure out how to close it!

    DiAlex -

As I stated previously in this thread, Our State allows for a blade
"...not to exceed 4".." that's actually quite a liberal blade length
considering that most of Connecticut's State "apparatchik" would
like nothing less than to disarm it's citizens. This won't happen
though : the department of public safety, Our governor ( Jodi Rell )
and others ( even in the democratic party ) won't have it. There are
the usual anti-gunners here, but they're few in number.

    Again gang : a $35 meerkat co$t YNHH $30K in medicare $$$.

    The taxpayer wins!

I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune, Allen. I don't know what the heck I would do in a case like that.... If there is anything that I hate it's people getting paid minimum wage(or less) that get a big head on their shoulders because of a little authority that is given to them. IMO, they need some good ol' wall to wall counseling.

    check your email, buddy....

I hate minimum wage meself ( the last bastion of slavery, I say ) but
in Connecticut it's about $2.00 more than the rest of Our Blessed Union.

The thing was this wasn't a "rent-a-cop" but a bonafide YNHH
policeman. Pays about $60K a year!

NO ONE needs counseling from those whores ( the headshrinkers ) I'm
    free myself of their taint.

I'll check the e-mail after these threads.

Man, so they were real 'officers' huh? That really stinks....

Oh, and what I meant by the wall to wall counseling, is that THEY need it...

I forgot about the messaging here so I sent you one of those instead.
