    Pic Request: Caly3 and Delica4

Hey everyone. I was just browsing through some of the specs on my wishlist knives, and I realized for the first time what size the Caly3 really is. I don't know, for some reason, I always thought it was bigger. So, I would very much like to see some pics of it next to a Delica, since I have one of those, and like the feel of it in my hand. Finding out that the Caly3 is the size that it is has moved it way up on my wishlist.

    You're in luck Blackhair,

I just happened to be photographing my Caly III which I got a couple of days ago to add to my catalogue. The one shown here is a Blue ZDP D4. I would've done a comparo of my black FRN D4 with the Black G10 of the CalyIII but it is in a rather dismantled pimping attempt stage.

Here it is. It looks to me that the Delica 4 is a very very slightly lengthier knife than the Caly III. Only very slightly though. SLightly curvier, slightly broader, leaf shaped blade on the Caly III and full flat grind too.

Hope this helps. FWIW I think the Caly III is going to be one of my favourites in a very short period of time. I will be writing a concise review of it soon.

    Cheers

    Thanks Datan!

Yep, one of the things that I love about the D4 is its size, and I'm really hyped over the fact that the Caly3 is almost exactly the same.

While the D4 certainly doesn't look cheaply made, the Caly3 just has such a look of being well made. From the curves in the handle, to the way the finger choil makes a nice little indent when the knife is closed. I can see why the Caly3 is so popular. If Byrds are the knives that get people into Spyderco knives, and the Delica and Endura are the knives that get people into real Spyderco knives, then the Caly3 must be the knife that gets people into quality Spyderco knives.

BTW, very comprehensive shots, Datan, you covered every angle I could've wanted.

Not the best pictures, but here are a couple more with the Caly 3, Delica 4 and the small Persian.

Thanks for the pics! I wasn't sure if the Caly3 was the right upgrade from my Delica 4 for me until I found them. I bought a Caly3 from eBay immediately after seeing your comparison pics.

    Thanks again!

Maybe its just me, but I think the Caly 3 is streets ahead of the Delica in terms of cutting power, design and ergonomics. If I need a PE, I normally go for the Caly over the Delica or Endura. It's a great knife (and the CF version is even cooler!)

My Caly3 just showed up today...first "quality" knife in my collection. Love it. However, Ron's picture above makes me think I really want the mini Persian as well...what a beauty!

Caly3 and Delica G10 always fight their way to get in my pocket.
