    Pearl and Abalone Kopa

Spyderco finally got around to engraving these. Think it looks a lot better in person than it looks in the catalog. Nice enough that I'd consider getting a "user" if it weren't for the clip.

    Great Kopa Paul

How do you like the much spoken about Klown Kopa ? How does it compare with your PAP Kiwi ? ANd of course, can we get some photographic comparison of them both hanging out together ?

    Cheers

Thanks Jano, got home at 6:00 last night, sun was already going down, so I shot them real quick and was kind of surprised they turned out as well as they did. Scales look even better in person.

Like it very much Dan, as I said, would carry one if not for the #%!*@ clip. Both are nice, I'd have to say the Kiwi is a bit less flamboyant, so which I'd prefer on any given day would depend on my mood.

Will try to get some better photos this weekend, and a few with the pair of them together.

    Paul,
Thank you for posting these nice pictures. Your Kopa looks very pleasant. I certainly will get one. How do you like it to compare with others?

    hi Paul,

    Nice knive and nice pictures.
That kopa would make a nice pair together with the MOPA Kiwi.
I just recently bought the MOPA Kiwi and i like it very much, so the Kopa is now on my wish list.

    kind regards,

Thanks Roman. I have to say that in general my taste in scale materials runs more to things like horn, bone, and wood than to seashells. As an example, of the production Kiwis, my favorite is still the jigged bone. That said, the Pearl and Abalone Kopa is quite pretty. The pieces of abalone and pearl are very skillfully assembled, and the scales very well fitted to the knife. At least on mine, there are no imperfections of any kind in them. The pattern allows smaller pieces of shell to be used, which I'm sure helps to keep the cost within reason and, at least to my eyes, looks better than multiple pieces of a single type shell just glued together. If a clipless version were available, I'd most certainly get a second one to carry on occasion.

Woohoo ! The time for rejoicing is now !

Paul, I just received my PAP Kopa today, unexpectedly early as I was expecting it to arrive sometime next week.

I am truly quite surprised, as I initially thought that it would not be as impressive to me as it has been over the last couple of hours

Once again a very nice Kopa with multiple shell inlays. My concerns were similar to that of some others that because of the multiple layering of shells, that they may develop some F&F issues. None has been picked up as yet. When sunlight hits I will be photographing this beauty alongside the UKPK, DKPK and Caly3 I also received in the same package

Cheers for the look and words Paul. Looking forward to your comparo pic with the Kiwi MOPA

Glad to hear yours arrived safely Dan, and very happy to hear that you're pleased with it. Hope to see some pictures of it.

As promised, here are some shots of mine with its little brother, the Abalone & Pearl Kiwi. Light was a good bit better today, think these came out fairly well.

    Owe Mai Gawd !

Paul every time I look at that MOPA Kiwi it makes me weep and question myself as to why I have not yet got a single Kiwi in my hoard. IMHO I believe that did a better job on the design of the Kiwi MOPA than they did on the Kopa PAP. It looks a tad more elegant as a whole package than the Kopa.

Don't get me wrong, the Kopa is a very very nice knife and the F&F is unquestionable. I just think the Kiwi in this instance outshines the Kopa in these comparable finishes.

    This is mine:

And like the Kopa Gold MOP the depth of colour in the MOP and Abalone inlay can only really be appreciated in person. The photos do not do it justice at all.

    Cheers

    Hi Deacon,an exceptionally beautiful knife.
It resembles a Tiger shark, with those stripes and design.
just a question if i may, does the Kopa design and Caly3 resemble each other.
I haven't seen the Caly3 or Kopa exept on pictures.

Would say the Caly 3 looks like the Kopa's big brother, but the Kopa got the lion's share of the looks. Will take a shot of both models together tonight when I get home and post it.

    Hey Manixworld,

Kopa vs Caly 3 - both very capable and both great knives. I concur with Paul about the looks department on the Kopa. However, it is a small blade and for EDC purposes a more generic and all round pocket folder you will not find that can easily outdo the Caly 3.

Here are a few pics on the Kopa vs Caly 3. Will keep it brief as this thread is already contravening the rules of the board Still Kopa related, but we are all messing up Paul's thread.

Shown here are the Delica 4 black FRN vs. Caly 3 G10 vs. Kopa black micarta

    Congratulations, Paul!
I am glad that "something completely different" finally found its way to your home! How would you rank this Kopa?

First Mark, I want to thank you for alerting me to the fact they'd been out for a while. With the way CC knives have been shipping lately, I wasn't even concerned until you posted. Seems NGK misplaced this one, may have had something to do with the major remodelling job they were doing. Anyway, a phone call and some sleuth work by Annie got it found and shipped.

As for rank, it's definitely the most flamboyant of the Kopas. At the same time, it's probably the most "PC" of them. Anyone intimidated by it should really consider sealing themselves in a concrete bunker. That said, while quite attractive, it's probably not one I'd carry, even if it had no clip.
