    Amazing Streamlight UV Flashlight

(Upon rereading this post, it sounds like it could be an ad. I have no connection with Streamlight, I am just pleased with this one particular product and wanted to share. I'm sure there are many other products that can do the same or better. However, if positive reviews are not your forte, please skip...)

I borrowed a friend's Streamlight Twin Task 3C UV Flashlight and just had to have one for myself. It arrived a week ago, and has revealed all sorts of unpleasant things...which is good, because now I can either avoid them, or clean them up.

This flashlight (in black finish, not titanium finish) has white, UV 375, and UV 390 frequencies. (The UV frequencies can burn your eyes if you look directly into the flashlight...caution must be exercised.) These UV frequencies are used for forensics, to find all kinds of hidden markers and nasties, particularly protein compounds such as urine, semen, feces, as well as finding coolant leaks and scorpions and forged documents and the stripes in legitimate currency and other things.

I am finding the flashlight invaluable when investigating houses and apartments, and finding pet "accidents," of which I have found waaaay too many...bad dog! If it's smelly, but you can't find it, this flashlight could help you find the source of the problem.

    Timely

Thanks for the info on the UV Streamlight. We recently moved from Caly-fornya to Arizona and have been thinking about getting some form of UV light to look for scorpions around our property. That said, we're not so sure we really want to know...

    Warning: PG-13

Reminds me of a story a comedian told. Basically, he had heard that a forensics team had gone around the country with UV lights checking hotels for cleanliness. They found semen everywhere.

Sorry if that is inappropriate. I thought it was hilarious.

Thanks for the link. I have always wanted a uv light but I am paranoid that I will accidentally blind myself or destroy my eyeballs

UV blocking glasses a good idea

That is eye opening to say the least, if true.

Me too; so far I am using it rather carefully, not even shining it on white cloth due to imagined reflection. I have heard that normal glass-lensed glasses block most UV but not all. However, there are many UV safe glasses and goggles out there that claim to block near all UV. Here's the pair I bought, hasn't arrived yet. Won't my wife have a lot of fun at my expense when it does...

Sorry, had to bump this back up. It's quite interesting.

I also got a UV Inova X1 a while ago and have used it (and some amber lenses) primarily for sheer curiosity. This too yielded some rather eye-opening stuff around the house.

Rather than being scared by what I found, I'm actually amazed at what we've lived in and around for so many years without serious harm. That's not to say you shouldn't wash your hands with soap and water, but there's no reason for something like this to make you squeamish.

It's also become clear that there's no possible way to get your house/apartment completely and unquestionably clean. There's always going to be something left over and odds are pretty damn good it's not enough to cause you any harm. If it were, we'd probably have all been hospitalized several times in our life for bacterial sepsis.

Anyway, I wanted to put in my .02...
