Best "Action Adventure" star and movie

Ok, now that we've firmly established that Steven Segal and his films are both held in rather low esteem here, and since his films would pretty much all fit into the general category of "Action Adventure" the logical questions are - Who is your favorite "Action Adventure" star? What is your all-time favorite movie in that genre? The star you pick does not necessarily have to be in that movie.

I have to go with Harrison Ford as the star. My favorite movie though would be Commando with the guvenator at his monosyllabic best I've worn out two tapes and my DVD is showing signs of age. Almost pure uninterrupted violence, with only minimal plot to distract from that.

I'd have to go with Harrison Ford as well, in the Indiana Jones movies. I have the complete DVD set and am also a member of at least four of the internet forums devoted to the movies, hats, jackets, and gear. Movie # 4 is being fillmed right now, but I've got mixed feelings about it.

+ one for Bruce Willis, there are so many of his that slip in between the Die Hards...the Last Boyscout, Striking Distance, The Jackal, 12 Monkeys, Pulp Fiction, Grindhouse, The Siege, Tears of the Sun (a great movie), Fifth Element, Armageddon, Hostage, Sin City...and my favorite of his Last Man Standing.

    Favorite Movie...Last Man Standing.

I've ALWAYS been a fan of Harrison "Indiana Jones" Ford. Although only the first 2 movies have a pecial place in my heart...

And the "comic" violence of Commando is indeed superb. So I second (or thirth, fourth, whatever) the Deacon's choice.

For me it's the late great Steve McQueen.Even though his works were all before we created the "Action adventure" label,he surely was a pioneer. His love for cars and motorcycles is something I share, and a quality that I admire in his characters was the way he played a tough guy.....calm and cool with understated elegance. He knew how to work the ladies too.

I have two box sets of his stuff,my personal faves being-"The Towering Inferno","The Magnificant Seven" and of course "Bullitt".

Non-McQeen favorites would be "The Last Samurai" and "Gladiator".

    Action-Movie-Aholic

I admit it---I love action movies. A lot of good ones have been mentioned (anything that has Indiana Jones in it has to be worth watching ).

    Some of my favorites:

    Equilibrium with Christian Bale
    Ong-Bak with Tony Jaa
The One, Kiss of the Dragon, and Fist of Legend with Jet Li
    300
The Rock with Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery
The Rundown and The Scorpion King with The Rock

Last Man Standing with Bruce Willis is a good one (especially on a Spyderco forum, as it is basically a remake, in a different historical setting, of the Japanese classic, Yojimbo).

Let's see--as a martial artist and action movie addict--

Good Guys Wear Black, The Octagon, Forced Vengeance, Code of Silence, Lone Wolf McQuade, Invasion USA, Missing In Action (and II and III), Delta Force, Hero and the Terror, Silent Rage, etc., etc. and in no particular order--tell me the plot and I can probably give you the movie title (Zen of course will say that there are only three martial arts movie plots, but I think we already had the movie plot discussion earlier ).

What makes me wonder is, that none of you mentioned Rambo
For me, its the best. I love all three movies of the series. Maybe the second one more than the others. His other movies like Cobra, Cliffhanger and such, are also pretty good Action movies. So i think i go for Sly
Commando and Predator are also one of my favorites.

You can find good amount of adventure and action in Fanfan la Tulipe. And Gina Lollobrigida just rocks

However, what are the best action movies?
    • Scarface (I like the 80s version better, but 30s version is amazing for it's time)
    • Bullet in the head
    • Hard boiled

Shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached thou hast the correct number of martial arts movie plots.
