I just had to repost something that I came across on BF. It was a post to a video clip from the infomercial Cutlery Corner where they usually offer a bunch of knives for a single "low" price. 258 pieces of cutlery for $299.99, how could you go wrong!?

Here is the clip. In the first few seconds of the video a woman is shown trying to stick one of the high quality knives into a block of wood. The liner lock of the knife fails and the blade almost closes on her fingers. I can't belie that they kept that footage in the video. Priceless

No big deal though, if one fails there are 257 backups!

Those knives are the shizzle. We all need at least 6 sets to be considered real collectors.

Those freaking shows give what we do a bad name. Those knives are total junk.

I bet I could cut a lot of those knives in half with a serrated Spydie.

A few observations:

1: They actually have names for these knives? why not POS # 26 ? A lot of those look like they were designed and made by monkeys

2: Apparently there is a steel that doesn't ever need sharpening. I've never seen those. unless they mean it doesn't need sharpening, because you just throw it away after 1 use

3: Anyone that knows anything about knives KNOWS that you never display knives by jamming 26 of them in a cork block and waving them above your head

4: Do i actually hear the phones ringing? are people really calling in and buying these things?

And finally, who the heck needs that many crap knives?

I'm pretty sure that these are the knives that are sold in convenience stores & flea markets. You could make one heck of a profit selling these knife for $5 a piece. Personally, I would feel unethical if I were selling knives that are known to be of poor quality and dangerous.

My next door neighbor watched that show and bought one of those 300+ knife packages to go into the "Internet Knife Sellin' Bidness".

He couldn't even GIVE those pieces of trash away.... (ooops, forgot about shiny footprints...)

When I gave our Sous Chef a Blue Rescue 93mm the owner of our establishment wanted to know which gas station I bought it at so he could get one too. He looked at me like I had just grown a foot out of my head when I told him it was a 60$ knife.

I've had many similar experiences throughout the years. The most recent time was when I was showing a P'kal to a friend. He was impressed with the design and eventually asked me how much it cost. For a laugh, I asked him how much he thought it would go for...he said $15. I low-balled it & told him around $80. I figured he would go into shock if I told him the actual price

Heh, yeah, that sounds about par for the course with your average NKP. What I wonder about is how these folks managed to stay completely ignorant as far as the price of a decent knife. I mean, a Buck 110, arguably the most recognizable single blade folder in the market, is gonna run you something like 40 or 50 bucks. A swiss army knife (depending on model of course) is gonna set you back anywhere from 20-150$. Surely most people... NKPs included... have at some point been at a retailer where THOSE products are sold. If not, there is a whole rack of Leatherman products at every hardware store I have ever been to. Just a standard PST runs you something like 50$. Now, all of those are fine companies and I own many of each of their products. But, I think even one who has not been "initiated" into this hobby should be able to deduce that a Spyderco P'kal is of higher quality than a Buck 110 and therefore more costly.

Eh, thats my two cents anyhow.
