Smile first time spyderco owner, couple of questions..

    Hello,

I am a first time spyderco owner - just recieved a yellow SE atlantic salt - going to be my EDC (bye bye gerber combat folder - a bit too much for EDC and not as usefull as a tool ) .

The questions I have - is it possible to somehow grind the first inch of the SE to a flat blade to make a sort of H1 Blue Rescue (links, suggestsions, etc)? I dive and am around water a lot and that type of blade would be perfect.

Or is Blue Rescue in H1 coming anytime soon? I dream of that... seems like a perfect rescue/edc knife for a lot of uses....

Howdy sandapanda, and welcome to the forum!

Congrats on the Atlantic Salt, H1 is great stuff, easy to sharpen as well.

It's possible, with the right equipment, but it would be pretty difficult to remove the serrations on the end of the blade. It'd probably be easier to get a plain edge and add serrations(not that that would be easy either )

I'm surprised one hasn't come out yet. A whitewater Rescue knife seems like it would be a great seller. If you're lucky, maybe Sal will put one out.

I would definitely send a PM to STR. He does alot of customization for alot of people, and he actually stayed up until 2:30 AM working on one of my knives after reroofing his tool shed.

Thanks for the tips guys, will send STR a PM in a couple of days.

Yeah I am surprised there is not an H1 version of Blue Rescue - with a proper sheath for the knife while open it would make a perfect whitewater/diving knife.

Anyone made a sheath for the Atlantic Salt (to hold it when opened)? I am thinking of making some out webbing, as soon as proper width is found. (a primary rescue knife needs to be carried "at the ready" so a secure sheath for it open is needed).

I know i could get a non-folding H1 model.... but I get attached to knives and prefer to drag the ones I like everywhere

Somewhere around here are pictures of a H-1 Dive Knife, which would probably make an exceptional Rescue knife.

You can still carry it everywhere, you'll just need a sheath

The Saver Salt (a "Saltified" Rescue) will be coming, just not sure when. There were prototypes at the Amsterdam meet, and Mr Blonde was kind enough to take some great photos:

yep - thanks for the photos and the welcome! - those are just a shorter Atlantic... no PE/SE mixed blade!

Went to my friend's ranch today - wow the SE cuts a lot of stuff... worked pretty well at food prep as well as cutting other varios stuff - wood, etc, - and then rinsed right off! VERY HAPPY! Knife so sharp I cut myself in 6 places before I even noticed (just the skin... no bleedin hehe)
