    Interview monday

It's nice having friends higher up who owe you

Lets go back a few months... Linda was an assembler on my line at work, in charge of social and BBQs at work. She got the position of Activities Co-ordinator upstairs 3-4 months ago (reports directly to the co-owner of the company... so what she says, gets done). There are 4-5 of us that get called on when she needs ppl or help. 2 of us were on the line with her. I personally have bailed her out of a few situations. She owed me after the last one.

last week, I applied for a repair tech (position 2). Let her know to toss in a good word for me. Also let the PTS folks I deal with just about daily that dropping a good word wouldn't hurt if they didn't mind.

Well, got an email from HR today saying I've got interview for the repair tech (position 1). Wasn't what I applied for, but I'll take it. Beats the "{insert name here} due to the number of applicants we are unable to interview you for this job at this time" email that I've gotten 6-7 times so far. Emailed linda to let her know I got the interview at least, got an email back saying it's essentially mine already

So the next week or so...
Get out of work thursday midnight, drop in to work to look at new toys from Agilent for a couple hours friday... nothing planned all weekend.. interview monday night, and I take my tent out tuesday noon and unplug till the weekend again. It's nice having 113hrs built up between holiday and banked **innocent smile**

We're apparently getting a new tech on our line sunday night, I won't see the guy for a week, if he's even around still at that point. If all goes well, I'll never have to see my line again

Why do people worry more if you argue with your voices than if you just talk with them? What about if you lose those arguements?

arend: can only hope I've still got enough luck left here... haven't blown anything up in a while.

alex: after the last situation I bailed her from, we'll be just about even if I get this position.

The last situation was a meat sale at work a month ago. Forms went out in early april for a mid may delivery, lots of time to pay... well, come delivery day she's $1K short. So rather than cause a delay while we pick the orders that ARE paid for, I picked up the rest of the tab on my debit card. So I've now paid for 2/3 of the meat myself.
She's spent the last 4 weeks trying to collect it all from ppl, I have a check for $500 of that sitting in my locker that will get cashed this weekend if I don't have it all yet. She says I'll have the full $1K back this friday (today was payday).

Was her first major job in her new position, wasn't about to let her flounder and have to hit accounting or the boss to cover ppl that didn't pay her yet.
Wasn't the first time I've bailed her, this last one was just the biggest. Only a couple ppl at work know about this kind of stuff going on. There are a dozen of us in the company (only 700odd ppl at our location) that will stick thier neck out and help... but if/when the rewards come, it all pays out in the end. A few of us can jump into just about any position on the floor and cover for someone.

    **BUMP**

    Got back from my holidays...

no email at work (in this case no news is good news, rejections comes on email there), no calls at home or on my cell.

Went upstairs at my 10pm break to harass Richard (currently the only night W&R tech, worked on the production line with him for 5-6 months before he went upstairs, usually stop in at some point to chat). After asking how my break was, he tells me "I know something you don't know... you're already supposed to be working up here"... and my brain stops. Asked Pauline (the head of W&R nights) if she knew anything, and I'm supposed to get a call tomorrow (aka monday's shift). Just a question at that point as to how soon I can be spared.

As far as our 'new' tech... another line had 9 techs at 7 stations. They lost 2. We got one of them, and a guy that finished up his Technologist course, went through the week of solder practice and has been on days for the last couple weeks getting the basics (as they try to train the guys who will be teaching the inhouse tech training themselves, since the guy who was doing it moved up in the company).

Left them 60 or so boards, come back and there are only 10-11 there. And of course I get the old ones that have been floating for the last 7-8 months

The temptation to tell everyone off on my line is there tomorrow after I get the call, but then I think and realize that I'm likely going to be working with some of them again when I go back to school in a year and switch to 1/2 days.
