You read between the lines Once I had a Viele 1st gen with AUS-8 in plain and the liner was at the end of the last third, though, the blade was mint. I sold it and now I've a Viele with VG-10, the liner finds its position at first third on the ramp, that's more than ok.

IMO the 1st gen is better in fit & finish - except the liner lock position maybe.

    Peter,
I guess I know what you are talking about now.
On the picture below, the older Viele is on the right. The liner is almost at the end of the ramp. I understand that under hard use this lock has more chances to fail that the one with liner positioned at the first third. Is it correct?

There is no way I would get rid of this knife though. At least for this reason alone. The opening and closing is very smooth. And it feels solid in open position. And finally, I like it too much.
I also checked the rest of my knives with liner locks and found this.
In older PS Zowada with AUS-8 blade(right) I cannot engage liner lock anymore...

It looks like Spyderco did have some problems with liner locks in the past.

I bet it was working when I bought it not so long ago.
I newer expected that taking pictures can be so hard on a knife.
I am going to talk to Spyderco Warranty department about this one. So far they were exceptionally good to me.
    Regards,

sweet pix of the Viele(s) Whynot....
Yipes, your older Viele and Aus8 Zowada need some "tuning up" of the linerlock for safety's sake

Nice Viele with teeth shot! I love my VG-10 PE version, I never warmed up to the Viele II, that one was too tough to open left handed.

Very nice pictures WhyNot, I love them.
Now you need to get Blue Dodo, pictures will be even better, especially with new camera.
BTW, R2 will also look great.

    WhyNot,
I never understand when people talk about Dodo being ugly, since I saw it the first time I was charmed by this knife. I feel some magic in Dodo. I just wanted share with you.

I agree with WhyNot - Dodo isn't ugly and least of all your pictures.

    New camera? More info please

Brian, Tjolbi, Peter, I am glad you liked Dodo pics. It took me awhile to come up with the right settings for these shots. Hopefully they do justice to this unique knife.

As always, thank you Brian and Roman!
I have to add these words to my signature line!

For the past few weeks I am learning how to use my new camera. It feels like it is going to take a long time to get familiar with most of its features. In a meantime, I am just concentrating on getting more or less decent close-ups. Here is what I’ve got so far...
