    Byrd slipjoint? Maybe? Please?

I don't live in the UK, but in these times, a safety feature, such as a lock, transforms a tool into a weapon. I have a friend in the UK that I see now and then, and he says he wants to carry something better then his Swiss Army Knife, but the UK penknife is a bit too expensive for him. Any chance of something like a Byrd UK knife?

EDIT: I forgot about the Firebyrd, but that wasn't supposed to be to good.

You know, that's not a bad idea. I've been trying to lobby for a more gentlemanly byrd, something almost mimicking the kiwi or kopa, and a slipjoint would fit the bill.

Just as long as its somewhat slim and not too long, that would make a perfect gift to people.

I think that the people on the other side off the pond would like a bit more EDC options from spyderco.

    Hi Spydiman,

We've actually got a few things in the works with the Brits in mind.

I'd personally like to see some more slip joins from Spyderco. I don't own a UKPK mostly because I'm not a huge fan of G-10. I'd like to see an SS, Micarta, or wood handled slip joint.

    Hi dedguy,

The "Urban" is in the works. shorter than the UKPK (2.6"), but the same platform. 4 blade shapes (Leaf, warnie, sheepfoot [lambsfoot to the Brits ] & "safety" blade) 3 handle materials (G-10, FRN, bolster/wood or ?).

    All mix n match.

Wow, sounds great. I'm more and more about wood handles these days.

As far as the "?" goes I'd kinda like to see a few different options to go with the bolsters. Perhaps some different woods and a couple different colors of micarta? Or maybe a couple different types of Micarta? I know it comes in a few different material varieties.

How about stainless steel (perhaps with an acid-etched finish) as another scale material?

Hi Padawan, we shipped last week

    Just kidding

Whatever I say will be wrong.

We shooting for years end, or early next year.

Any scale material is possible, probably make one or two a year after the model is out.

    Hi Joe,

    Should be cheaper.

College is more important that Kopa's.

Depends on what you're going to college for. I work at a College and let me tell you, too dang many people are there for all the wrong reasons.

    Hi Guy,

I guess I'm assuming that Joe is there for the right reasons. He's here on the Spyderco forum.......so he must be a "special" thinker

Thanks Sal, I'm taking that as a compliment of the highest order

I'm going for a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and I just love designing new things. I have a notebook full of drawings of projects I want to build someday (quite a few of them are knives, and most of those have the hole in the blade )

P.S. Sorry for derailing the thread.
