I recently got a numbered Ronin for about the old MSRP through Ebay, and it arrived in minty condition. That was a GOOD purchase, IMHO. I just won a Gunting for a surprisingly low amount, a few dollars over the old MSRP. I guess the PE Guntings with original boxes are the hot item, as this one was CE without box, in my preferred S30V. I certainly do not need a box for a carry knife. I hope that upon arrival it lives up to its promise. I was lucky to have bought several each of the Gunting and Ronin when they were new; I like to have quite a few spares of my carry knives, in case of loss or damage, and in case I want to present them as gifts someday to special freinds or family who see and like mine. As far as the Yojimbo being collectible someday, I hope to see it stay in the line-up forever, and therefore never become truly collectible. I do wish I had managed to get a black Yojimbo, not for collectible reasons, but because black goes better with black clothing, but that is a minor consideration. Looking over my post, I guess it's obvious I am not a knife collector in the usual sense of the term.
Some of my old carry knives are honorably retired, and some of my spares are kept in mint condition, but all are at least potential carry/using blades.
