Why I don't frequent forums anymore

I just opened a nasty email sent to me, the sender does not specify a particular forum but this type of intimidation is wrong. Here is what he sent me below I copied & pasted it. I replied to his message but I dont expect him to write back.

Take your picture off the forum. You're not welcome in the forum. Stop posting to the forum. Stay away from us real knife lovers. You're pretty friggin' ugly too.

I belong to & post on more than one forum but he does not state which forum I should leave it is very vague. I dont know but this is upsetting though.

The only forum I have posted a photo of myself is here on the Spyderco forum in the "off topic" section posted in the "lets see your face" thread. I guess that photo is what he means when he says "You're pretty friggin' ugly too." I dont appreciate this type of hate mail.

I dont know if he is a registered member of this forum or any other forum I belong to it is a shame these types of things happen though.

Has anyone else ever got an email like this?

Whoever that is, I'd say that'd be grounds for some kind of administrative action. Not acceptable at all.

I'm sorry to hear about that email, George...upon reading the email I felt that it was petty, mean-spirited and ignorant...I pity the person who has so much ugliness inside of them, that they need to lash out at others in that manner.

Before this goes south - I am usure why there would be a problem because I chose to post this in this thread? Where should it go then? This thread talks about different types of forum harrassment. If I offened you I am sorry? What should I do remove it?

All kidding aside, have to say that, compared with some of the other internet communities I've been involved with over the years, knife forums appear to have the lowest number of such individuals, and the least imaginative when it comes to insults and invective.

Does not appear to have been sent through this forum, or BF, since emails sent to members through their servers are easy to identify. Think most forums, at least those that run on vBulletin software, do the same. So it would have to be someone who knew your email address, . Depending on how widely know yours is, that might narrow down the list of suspects, or not.

hey George, i'm really sorry to hear that, i thought the "lets see your face" thread would be a good idea, it was done before, it's really sad that people do this kind of stuff, we just need to ignore this kind of guys, this forum is really a special place, it's like a second home for me, and it really is a shame that good guys are getting hurt and post less or even worst.

"enduraman" is probably an angry 12 year old who has no idea how to behave in public! Try to forget about it, George, and get back to enjoying the forums.

By and large, they aren't too bad a place to hang out. A few individuals dirty up the landscape, but don't let that drive you crazy!

I am sorry to have upset you Chucula "Dad gum!" I was simply asking if any other members had something similar happen to them. I am not making up this email & I dont know who sent it or what forum they want me to leave, but please dont think I have any troubles because of it - I dont.
I have no problems today only blessings

Never from anyone calling themselves Enduraman. Never one I could link to anything I'd posted here, or on any other knife related forum, that was not controversial enough for me to be expecting some hate mail. Gotten a few "out of the blue" over the years as a result of posts on forums of other types. But back when I use to play in, and even host, online pinochle and spades tournaments, hardly a day went by that I didn't get at least one, and some of them contained death threats. Amazing, considering that, with rare exceptions, they were just "fun" tournys, no money or other prizes at stake.

Notice you have links to a couple IM programs in your profile. FWIW, those can be seen by anyone viewing the forum, not just members. Am not familiar with how IM software works these days, do you think they could have gotten your email that way?

I know I haven't been here long enough, but your comment in my mind was quite disrespectful. In my book you stick up for friends and as a community you stick up for each other no matter what. Since we all are a part of this forum we should have each others best interests at heart. If you have a rapport with George or know him quite well and this is the way you usually interact I apologize. I have said what i needed to say.
