Blue G10 - is it really that unpopular?

I've noticed that the blue Yojimbo seems to be a lot easier to get a hold of than the black one. I've also noticed that the blue Dodo is a little easier to get than the black one.

Off the top of my head, i can't think of any current production Spydies that use Blue G10 either.

Is G10 really that unpopular in colors other than black? I would've though brighter colors would be more popular as they seem more sheepie friendly.

    What do you guys think?

blue seems rather a "special" color, appropriate to sheeple-friendly EDC, yet does everyone who buys a knife take NKP-friendliness into consideration? most likely not.

i feel like black fits with a greater variety of daily dress, circumstances and situations, and would also be friendlier to the "tactical" and "martial artist" types, hence its having a greater popularity?

    i'm not sure!

i would buy a blue spydie just to have something "different" from my black spydies... but someone "just looking for a knife" might not be as fascinated and intrigued by the color...

if i wanted a field knife, or something that looked good with my military or manix, i'd probably go for a black G10 spydie...

I think a lot of people don't think about other people when they buy knives, they like the look of black and steel--it seems like it's a very popular combination. Also it seems like the majority of knife buyers and collectors want something that looks scary (just open up a BudK catalog and see if there is anything in there that you would use in public).

I personally just like the black. I kind of think the blue makes it look like a toy. So I guess it really just boils down to opinion. I guess it's the same way with other things though... If Glock decided to start manufacturing their weapons in a blue color, I would still buy black .

i have a number of yojimbos in both colors. the blue is my favorite as it really blends well with the jeans i frequently wear. the black looks really good with my tux.

i work hard at making sure knives stay in my pocket around sheeple but my impression is that either black or blue yojimbos tend to put these folks on edge.

    Good point

Perhaps the Dodo is not far behind, at times i can't help but think of it as a Mini Civilian.

If I liked G-10 I would definitely like one with a blue handle. I actually had my Mini Manix customized by STR in anodized blue titanium b/c its my favorite color. However, I can really see the appeal in the combination of a black handle and steel. If titanium could be anodized black I would most likely have a Mini Manix (or another spyderco) done in that color.

Blue G10 is one of my absolute favorite scales. I'd buy a knife just because of that, seriously. Blue G10 ROCKS!

Frankly I like G10 in colors other than plain black. I wish there were more colorful G10 scales available.

Short simple answer is yes, it is quite unpopular.

Every blue G-10 model Spyderco has offered has sold poorly. The BladeForum Native did not sell well. The Dodo was not on the market a week before "I'd buy it if it were black" posts and "Hey Sal, how about a black Dodo" threads started appearing on the forums. SSDD with the Yojimbo.

I don't think it's the color either. Personally I doubt any other color would fare much better. The only explaination I can come up with is that most knives have either black or silver handles. Knife buyers thus regard those colors as "normal". They may not particularly like black, but they like it better than everything except perhaps one or two shades of one specific color. Those shades, and that color, vary from user to user, so that any given color and shade has few fans.

For what it's worth, Sal has also said that black FRN handles sell better than colors too.
