Who would like to see a big-boy Wharncliffe folder?

    Howdy all!

Maybe this is a useless waste of forum space (maybe I've run this thread before, who knows), but I've made my way back (as I always seem to do ) to the Centofante IV, and have come to realize how great it would be to have a large EDC Wharncliffe folder!

I'd like to see one with a profile exactly like or similiar to the Cento IV, but with a flat ground blade, and a choil designed into the handles, which would have to be blue G-10, of course. Okay, I confess, I'd buy black too!

I'd like to see the edge run the same in relation to the handle as the Cento IV and not like the Atlantic salt and Rescues, which kinda slant inward too much for me. I'd like to see the same thickness (or should I say thinness) as well, works very effectively.

Lock style is negotiable. Lock-back or compression would work, but I'd really like to see the ball lock in something else, it really is a great system.

    Anyone agree?
    Anyone disagree?

    Thumbs up

I'm with you Axlis! I'd like to see more wharnies, period!! I'd love an industrial strength wharnie folder w/a compression or framelock that would take the same kind of beating that a manix can. (I've actually designed one!! I should probably think about showing it to Sal...eventually )

How big are we talkin' here? C-54 big? I think a Centofante IV profiled knife in the Endura/Calypso size range would be awesome. So long as it retains the class of it's smaller brother.

I'll do a wharnie in any size, ladybug size, a large folder would be nice, a special edition limited run large fixed bladed Wharnie...."Super Wharnie"...I'm sure Sal or his son would be able to come up with a wonderful Wharnie Design that everyone would stand up and cheer about....I'll be first in line to buy one for sure Doc

How about a new wharncliffe blade period. Big, medium, or small... anything new to expand/update this blade style would be greatly appreciated.

I would love to see a SS handle wharncliffe blade in VG-10 roughly the same size as a endura.

Simple and elegant, done in a sophistication that is ALL Spyderco.

    ....nice.

Who wants a new wharncliffe folder?

    *Pull in deep breath*

    ME!!!

    Let's see...

Flat ground, at least 3mm, preferably 4, CPM-S30V (Well, for surgical quality, ZDP-189, but that's probably not going to happen)

    Definitely a comp lock.

Something like the Yojimbo, but a little more utility and style (well, as much as can be done with a wharncliffe blade).

I would love that very much Axlis

But please make mine fully serrated as well (kinda wharncliffe rescue) with black G10 handles(screw clip when linered or wire clip when unlinered). VG10 and about the same length as the R2

I would like it to be a lockback with no vertical play

I think it should have a 4" flat ground blade, VG-10 and G10

Thanks to STR, I already have mine

Next step is to find someone to make me one with a full flat ground Odin's Eye Damasteel blade, an undented lockbar, front bolsters, and ironwood scales.

It would be a lovely thing indeed. My main large EDC is an old PE Rescue with the tip reground to a wharncliffe.

Basically take an Atlantic Salt, increase the size 10-15%, flat ground wharncliffe blade, keep the lockback (broader market appeal), G10 scales, nested liners, 4 position clip and lanyard hole. This knife needs a deep, fairly straight handle without a lot of curve to 1) allow for a variety of grips for comfortable slicing/SD/ heavy cutting and 2) so that the blade and nest in deep to allow for lots of actual use and sharpening over ther years.

One thing I would like to see more than a Wharnie is another Spyderco Tanto blade. Most tanto blades have a straight edge just like a wharncliff, but with the addition of a sharp tip. I see this has the best of both worlds, and I don't really see what a wharncliff could have over a tanto. Just my opinion

Yum... aside from a new Wharnie, a new Tanto is next on my wishlist.

or... I could just get a custom Tanto made from a number of people...
