    Props To Tony Blair

Robert Streeter writes in his "Thought For The Day:"

We should remember England's Prime Minister Tony Blair's words during a recent interview.

When asked by one of his Parliament members why he believes so much in America, he said:

"A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in and how many want out.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

    1. Jesus Christ.
    2. The American GI

One died for your soul, the other died for your freedom."

    Amen, Mr. Blair. Amen.

I agree about the GI's and the measure of a country being how many people want in vs out. Exactly what i think.

That whole quote was great, but for some reason this statement alone just kinda hits home to me.

Unfortunately, either the person quoting Blair was inaccurate, or Mr. Blair himself forgot the men and women in the armed forces of a number of other countries. I'm not belittling the role American armed forces have played in a variety of conflicts, but they weren't alone - particularly when it came to defending Great Britain.

Tony Blair is a "Good Guy". And what a great quote even though the very last part was not in his speech. It does add a lot to it.

Facts on his speech can be found here: www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/blair.asp

And 4 s ter- To be fair here he was only asked why he believes in America so much. Could that be the reason there was no mention of other countries.

America and Britain are the two main powers in the current war. Yes, other countries are participating. However, America has more of our service personnel that have been killed in the war than some countries have service personnel serving in the war.

I really don't want to start an argument, that wasn't the intent of my post. The only other comment I'll make is that we will be holding Remembrance Day services tomorrow in Canada also - remembering those Canadians who have given their lives in wars, up to and including Afganistan.

But isn't Canada still a part of the British Empire????

Dave, you're 100% correct and my hat is off to the numbers of brave Canadians who still stand shoulder-to-shoulder with those who fight to defend the freedoms we enjoy. There are a number of videos out there showing Canadian forces in action in Afghanistan and some of the sniper videos, albeit a bit gruesome, are amazing. God bless and protect our neighbors to the north on this Remembrance Day and everyday forward.

Commonwealth Java, Commonwealth!! We stopped being part of the "Empire" (i.e. a colony) in 1867

Thanks for the comments regarding Canadian Forces. I think it is a Canadian who currently holds the distance record for sniper "work"

I don't know if this is appropriate, but we had our casualties of war too, both in Irak and Afghanistan. We have troops there, although the price of gas here is very high.
