Cool Subcom Fixed Blade got some new clothes...

My SFB has been on vacation for the past month or so, getting some work done. Just came back today, and I'm very happy with the end result. Chase Axinn did the aftermarket work for me ( www.chaxknives.com )

I asked him to fit the knife with blue tweed G-10 scales, and to skeletonize them to match the handle design. He did an awesome job with it, the scales look great, and they're nice and grippy.

I also asked him to get rid of the rust prone bead blasted finish, and he put on a very fine stonewashed finish. Almost looks like a satin finish, until you look closely. I really like the look of it.

Here are some pics. It's a little overcast here today(looks like a storm coming) so this was the best I could do with the limited light I had.

Next up is a nice kydex sheath when I get some extra cash flow.

    Enjoy
    Scott

Scott...it looks AWESOME!!!!...I love what you had done to the Subcom, looks like you added strenght to the grip without the bulk...should make a fine neck knife without the problems of printing under the shirt...I just love it! Enjoy.....Doc

Scott, you should start your own marketing firm for knife makers...you're selling most of us on the original knives and now the mods!!!

Seriously, though...very nice look...can we get an "in hand" shot? I love my subcom and look forward to the day I can pick up a fixed version...just curious about size, etc...

    Thanks!!

Ok, so you gave an "in hand" shot....shows how tired I am...officially signing off for the night...
    God bless!

Well thank you. If I can sell anyone on anything with these horrid pictures, I'd be surprised

Some days the pics come out, some days not so much, today is not a good day.

Ask and ye shall receive. Make a note. My palm is around 3.5" across.

Overall size about 5.5" (140mm for the rest of the world) give or take.

Hammer grip closed hand(VERY secure grip)

    Reverse grip open hand

Reverse grip half open(another shot to show how the handle fills the hand)

Very nice Scott, use it in good health! Wish the production version would start shipping.

Hi Scott, congrats on your new fine little knife. I like the original SFB, but this one is awsome. C. Axinn does a great job, I've seen some of his work and they were all impressive.

It was your PM that turned me on to Blue Tweed G-10. I saw yours and thought it looked great.

Well it's good to know even the custom owners are in the same boat when it comes to lack of sheaths.

    Yup

Those production sheaths better be worth the wait.

    Here you go.

    Top is the SFB

Upper left is the Desert Tan Gen 4 Subcom
Upper right is 1st Gen 420J2
Middle left and right are both 3rd Gen AUS-8 Boker Plus(no jimping on the lockbar)
Bottom is the very first Subcom I got from Chad. Original 1st Gen, still going strong. It's not pretty anymore, it's got slight blade play, and the whole knife is pretty well dinged up, but it hasn't failed me yet.

Shot of the SFB and 1st, 3rd, and 4th Gen SFs. Note the shorter clip on the 1st Gen.

Overall thickness shot(compared to a standard SF)

I still need a 2nd Gen SF(AUS-8, longer clip, no Boker Plus logo) and a standard 4th Gen(I've got the Desert Tan) as well as another two SFBs(got another idea for pimping one)

    Enjoy.
