    modifying a knife

but taking apart an old bench made pinnacle titanium frame lock stripping the black paint off the blade.trying to use a blow torch to color the titanium.is this a good idea. Can what is the best way to strip blade coating's knife currently is perfectly functional but looks like hell in my opinion.. So I don't have much to use it to lose except for a smooth functioning knife

Whoa! I though the best way to colorize Ti was with an electric current...but I don't know much about it.

As far as stripping, did you try any sort of chemical stripper? I know Axlis used finger nail stripper to strip a clip on his Salt...maybe that would work?

as far as the blade finish does. I think something a little tougher like soaking in acetone for a day.or maybe some goof off.I think it's a Teflon coating, so it shouldn't be a hard.I had heard and I could probably find a link that applying a blow torch to titanium creates random rainbow like patterns. Probably in ring that are actuallymore durable than a electroplating
and do ity yourself electroplating is pretty much out of my range anyway.is it entails filling with wires and batteries and finding the right solutions,as opposed to just hitting the thing with the blowtorch switches much more my style nowadays.although am moving toward a more refined everyday carry

Like I said, I don't know much about it but I don't think it is electroplating just applying current..but since I'm talking out of my butt I'll shut up now.

To remove the black coating, you're going to have to use crocus cloth (wet/dry sand paper). Take your time so you don't overheat the metal and try to keep from rounding sharp corners. You're going to have to use it regardless, as the blade will need refinishing to a good final finish anyway.

The torch trick is spiffy, but use someting smaller than a blow torch.

An auto body or machine shop can bead blast the blade for you.
I have heat colored ti before with nice results.Careful not to over do it,vary how hot differant areas get for the best colors.
