I haven't heard anything but good from them, I keep eyeing the Scout and the Drop point skinner.

My very personal opinion is that "Barkies" are too sharp for the average user. They will definately bite you and hurt you if you are careless with them. My BR "Huntsman" model has a blade guard because I never want to take a chance of having to be rushed to the ER for stitches and/or hand surgery because my hand slipped while gutting or skinning. This is assuming you don't bleed out and die first.

The Huntsman isn't a big honker Bowie-type knife. It is an easy carry and very efficient design and a great bank-for-the-buck!

Have you done much cutting with yours yet? Hopefully you will provide us with a review.

Another very sharp (too sharp) fixed blade knife that I think is decent for the money is the Spyderco Bill Moran model. Have you seen or handled this model?

Mr. Moran is a very famous knifemaker who recently passed away. He was the first to cooperate with Spyderco on a fixed blade, hence the model designation "FB01".

They're good knives, and good value for the money for sure.
I don't really understand the 'too sharp' issue. My spydies are sharper.
One thing, I think the larger ones are just too small for a relaxed full 4 finger grip.

    Ted -

The BR I received was hair-splitting sharp. Spydercos come in a realy close second.

By "too sharp" I'm referring to folks who have never handled anything much sharper than a dull kitchen butcher knife. They don't have the experience to realize that it takes very little effort to cut with these knives and other very sharp knives, very little effort. I think that these blades will go through stuff much quicker than the average knife user is used to. I have seen these inds of slips at camp. Then again, I'm not saying anyone on this forum is "average". Obviously not.

I have Spydercos that came out-of-box as sharp as BRKTs too. DGG has two pet theories he likes to throw out there, this one about BRKTs being too sharp, and the one about all knives being replaced by lasers in 10 years. Despite the fact no one on the interweb agrees with him, he keeps at it, and I can't but admire his persistence. The rest of what he writes is good stuff, just ignore the "too sharp" and "laser beam" theories

Getting back to the issue, I have a bunch of BRKTs and have found them to be excellent. Great edge geometry, they do a nice job on the steel, I don't seem to have much trouble keeping them from rusting (versus, say, my 5160 knives which I have to keep on top of), and very nice workmanship. My only caveat is that the handles on some models tend to run a little small.

I LOVE Bark River knives, so much so that I joined the collectors club!! I have 3: a Slither, a Trickle, and I can not remember the name of the third one. ( I won it.) They ARE fantastic knives!! I have my eye on a Sandstorm A, when I am employed again etc. Youy can't go wrong with a Barkie!!

Is there any downside to the ebay sellers of these knives? I discovered them recently myself, but have yet to purchase one. I think I want a mikro canadian, it's a tiny fixed blade I could get away with carrying at work. The forum over at knifeforums.com seems to be very active and they have a lot of fans, kind of like spydies
