Mini manix as heavy duty as the manix?

Is the mini manix as heavy duty as the full size manix? As far as lock strength. Thanks

Blades are same steel, and same thickness. Handles use equally thick liners and G10 scales. Blade and lockbar pivots seem the same. I would say they are of equal strength. If anything, the 83mm would be even more difficult to break than the full size Manix since it offers less leverage.

I would think it would even be strong. The shorter the blade the more the pivot & lock can take, in terms of pressure and weight

The Deacon is absolutely right. Especially the argument with leverage. It is just a physics.

Lightbulb Tank knife comparison> Lil T wins IMO

It's not too often that I recommend an old Spyder over a newer one but I think I got a feeling that I know indeed what you are looking for in a knife with this job capacity. I get the feeling that you are looking for something with a relatively short blade but you want a really bulky/stocky handle. The Mini Manix is a fine knife so please don't construe this as a put down of any Spyderco model. It's more of a personal preference>> "either or" type of an observation.

However if you are wanting a premium knife with an extremely rigid construction and a rugged constitution, super locking system then I would recommend you go with the Lil Temperance in this case. You can still get them. They have been coming up steadily on eBay and they do pop up on Bladeforums quite a bit.

I also like the Lil Temperance better for extreme heavy duty performance capability. The handle configuration has a much better grip to me than the Mini Manix. But if you like the design of the Manix you won't go wrong with it either but I think the Lil T would easily take about any punishment you could dish out.

I think either one of them would take more punishment than any sane person would ever give them. I will agree that the Lil' Temperance is an excellent knife with a loyal following. However, I think it only fair to point out that for some, it also has several points against it compared with the 83mm Manix.
    • more limited grip options, due to lack of a choil
    • clip is generally considered the weakest ever produced by , prone to breakage
    • not ambidexterous, handed lock, RH only clip mounting options
    • relatively "hjgh rise" carry at a point in time where most seem to be clammoring for low-rider clips
Granted, the overall thickness, length and height are virtually the same but the milled area on the left scale of the Lil Temperance makes it feel thinner in the hand. While you seem to consider this a plus, others may consider it a negative. Here are a some comparison shots.

    Thickness...
    Closed Size...
    Open Size...

The leaf bladed Lil' T mates even better with a baby-manix! Both great knives!
