    Need expert advice...

I noticed some discoloration on the blades of two of my knives. One is my newest C16PSBRG Goddard (I bet it came like this), another is Shabaria which I have for a couple of month. Both blades are made of VG-10. Is it typical for that steel? Any suggestions on how to get rid of it and prevent it from happening again?
Does anybody else have the same problem?
Is it a problem at all?

    Any help would be appreciated!

Here are a couple of pictures to show what I am talking about.

About all I can tell you is to try cleaning it with a sentry solutions tough cloth. I don't really know if this is common for this steel. I haven't noticed it on any of my vg-10 blades. The tough cloth will clean and protect it.

Perhaps Fliz polish could also work to fix it. I've seen it do wonderful stuff in polishing up a blade.

The best oxide cleaner I've found is 'Tarnite', available in 9 ounce tins from True Value (you may have to mail order).

Key ingredient is oxalic acid, which chemically digest oxides. For tarnishes such as pictured, some tarnite on cloth or paper towel should easily wipe away the oxidation with light finger pressure.

This stuff is excellent for rust-removal on collector-value knives, where you would not want to use an abrasive material.

    Hope this helps!

I also have this happen to my VG-10! My Cento 4, Rescue Jr., and CF Harpy all have this slight staining which appears within a few days of use. I figured it might have something to do with my body chemistry, but who knows. It only stains certain places, and there are no signs of rust. IIRC though, the Harpy had a spot when I bought, and rest spread with use.

I just checked my ArendT R, and it doesn't have any staining though...strange... and I use this one most of all!

Maybe someone else will chime in with answers, this has always puzzled me

Mr. Blonde is right on with this suggestion ... Try the Flitz. If the stain is deeper and the knife came from a dealer then send it back for an exchange.

    Thanks!!!

I have to admit - I did not have any clue about "sentry solutions tough cloth",
Tarnite, Flitz, or anything else recommended here What made me feel somewhat better was that people I talked to in Home Depot and Love's did not know about that stuff neither. But Ace Hardware had both Tarnite and Flitz! The guy in the store recommended Tarnite, so I bought it.
In no time my Shabaria was shining like never before! It took much more effort to clean up Goddard. But it also looks good now.
Thank you, guys for sharing your knowledge!

PS. Axlis, Do not worry about your body chemistry. You are fine! My knifes got stained without being used for EDC
