Possibility of a choiled Delica/Endura?

I know that a lot of people on here like their choils, as do I. I've been itching to finally buy myself a Delica, but I'm reluctant to buy any knife without choils after I have experienced the ergonomics and control that they offer.

While I know that it has been discussed why and how the choil doesn't appeal to the "casual knife buyer," I think that Spyderco-junkies would gobble up choiled Delicas/Enduras. Maybe just a specialized break-off version of the two knives, kind of like the "wave" models, a special class of Delica/Endura...

Anyways, it's an idea to be pondered, if nothing else. I did a quick photoshop on a Delica to see how it would possibly look.

There are choiled knives with similar blades and ergonomics that would make such a run a bit repetitive, I think.

The Byrd Meadowlark strikes me as a choiled Delica.

A choiled delica strikes me as being very similar to a caly jr. I'd guess a choiled endura would be similar to the big caly. How about a re-run of these in frn with nested liners...

I agree on the choil issue, para-force. Once you go choil, it is very hard to go back! The lack of a choil is the one reason I won't buy a Delica, it feels very uncomfortable in my hand. It would be interesting to see a Delica with a choil, but I would still pick the Caly Jr. in a heartbeat.

Makes us all wonder why the Caly Jr. wasn't so popular. IMHO it is a MUCH more advanced and sophisticated design than the Delica.

IMHO It's more advanced than a D3 but the D4 is better with the nested liners, better ergos and jimping. The Caly 3 will hopefully be alot more popular. Give me a caly 3 over a D4 any day...

As has already been pointed out, there are some great choiled models out there. Some in current production, some discontinued but fairly easy to find. Knives with choils, while appealing to enthusiasts, do not seem to enjoy similar favor from the general public. The Delica and Endura are two of Spyderco's "bread and butter" models. Asking them to risk losing John Q Pubic's support for them is asking a lot.

Besides, when Generation IV was being conceived, a number of us, myself included, suggested the same thing. I severely doubt that, with brand new tooling now in place, they would scrap it to do yet another complete make-over to include a feature they found undesirable.

The Delica and Endura models are flagship models, they're the breadwinners for Spyderco. Sal has mentioned in the past that choiled models sell better to knife knuts, while those without them sell better overall.

Look at the Caly Jr. as a perfect example. It has a choil, and is loved by most every knife knut you can talk to, but it was discontinued due to poor sales when I was readily available.

The D4 and E4 are perfect as is, I wouldn't change them yet. Wait a few years, than see what the market wants.

As I have only handled the D & E4 at the Amsterdam meeting I have no idea if I would like a choil on them or not. The E3 handle doesn't need one IMO but the D3 maybe could have used one to its advantage. Just a complicated way of saying I like the handle of my Rescue 79 better than my Tasman Salt as I do not have a D3.
