A very generous friend, known as ATR216, recently sent me a Surefire (SF) Beamfilter for my E-series of SF lights.I love my SF lights, but I'm not too knowledgeable about their products as I am with the Spyderco line. So the beamfilter was a completely new product for me.
Function
Basically what the filter does, is diffuse the beam, to create a softer beam that spreads out over a larger area.
This works wonders for my E-series LED lights, especially the E1L and E2L. These SF lights actually have very sharp, narrow and bright beams. They are very nice for medium and long distances, but a bit too bright in close. You wouldn't snuggle up in a tent with a book using an E1L or E2L.
Beamshots
With the beamfilter, the E1L actually becomes a type of bedlight for camping. It also makes lighting your way on midnight walks very comfortable. I no longer have to scan the light left & right to light my path.
Below is a shot of the E1L's regular beam.
And below is the E1L's beam with the beamfilter installed.
Models
I have the beamfilter now permanently installed on the E1L. The filter fits equally tight on the E1e, E2e, E2L and even the L2. The L2's beam is already more of a spotlight, rather than a tight throwing beam, so the filter doesn't work as dramatically as with the E1L and E2L.
Overall
In all, the beamfilter is a great addition for camping or other prolonged outdoor use. It's in my EDC arsenal. I also love how easy it comes on and off. Furthermore, I like the added protection it gives to the regular lense of the light.
Bill, you rock! Thank you for an awesome gift!
