    Spark of an idea

what do you guys think of a Tactical folder
that when you flick it open it causes a Spark?

it can be just a flashy novelty thing to look cool,
or for wilderness survival it can be used to start a fire.

    isn't this a neat idea?

Are you talking about the Byrd Firebird?

I think I'd wind up setting my pants on fire.

Especially if it has the Wave feature....instant pants fire

I wouldn't want any of my knives to spark when they open. I open & close them so much that the spark mechanism would quickly wear out.

It might be useful in some very limited circumstances, and, as you said might appeal to some just for the novelty of it. On the downside, I think you could pretty well rule out sales to LEOs, EMS personnel, firefighters, and anyone else who may not want a knife that might cause "problems" if opened in a potentially explosive environment.

Would be a great risk to play with this Spydie while pumping gas....BOOM!

1st thank you for your replies, read every one.
ok I checked the byrd firebird and no all that is, is a lighter carrier.

I mean as you flick open the knife it sparks! because of the lock back
part somehow. You know the click sound lock backs make?

ok I understand about it being dangerous and what not,
what if there is a replaceable piece almost like a cap gun or something
that you can put in if you want it to spark, and take out if not to
prevent accidental fires as many of you have voiced your concern.

And you can purchase more of these things if you are worried about
    wearing it out.

even tactically I think it would work & be a neat distraction.
many of the Chinese martial arts put tassels on their weapons to
    distract.

i might get you shot by someone thinking you were brandishing a firearm. and if it even made a "shot" sound it would make it even more difficult to use in daily life.

My wife ( and probably the rest of the community) would be VERY displeased if everytime i would open one of my Spyderco knives there would be a spark or the sound of a cap going off.
