    Future U.S. (Golden) made Spydies

I hope this thread is not a repeat of something I've missed, but I have been wondering about new models expected to come out of the Golden plant. If I understand it correctly, the new Caly 3 (which I'm eagerly awaiting) will be made in Japan. Are there any new models using top shelf materials coming from U.S. production?

I'm really finding myself wanting to buy more U.S. made knives (and other stuff). This is not based on an arrogant misconception that only U.S. made knives are any good. In fact, I understand very well that Seki City is one of the blade capitals of the "Earth." I also have purchased a fair number of knives from Seki City and other places around "Earth."

So, Spydutch, Simona, Mr. Blonde, UK Ken, Senate and all of my other fellow forumites from around "Earth" don't misunderstand me on this one. I fully respect quality goods where ever they are made. I just find myself wanting to support jobs for my fellow citizens here in the U.S. when I can (assuming the quality is similar).

I, as many of you are probably tired of hearing, like knives with blades in the 2.75" - 3.00" range and like S30v steel. I also like lined G10 handles and the compression lock. Maybe there will be something like this coming from Golden soon. (Is the new hawk coming out of Golden and what is the likely size dimensions?)

Do you know anything that I've missed?

    Thanks!

    Buzzbait,

You may be correct...I haven't heard that.

(By the way, what a review you did on the Para and Strider...I enjoyed reading it.)

    Thank you very much.

I found a quote from Sal:

The proto Caly 3 is the same as the UKPK,

    Same pattern & size.
    The same G-10 (USA).
Same ambi "deep pocket" wire clip (USA).

    except for:

    Steel which is VG-10.
A mid-lock back (with a boye dent, sorry Deacon).
    Dual skeletonized full steel liners.
Jimping on the finger choil (which will be added to the UKPK in the future).
The scales are pinned, but the pivot is adjustale.
It will be made in Seki-City & USA.
    It's a tiny bit thinner (about 1 mm).K,

The Super Hawk? Definitely not going to be in the size range you mentioned. It's going to be rather large(Spyderhawk sized), but it's likely to be made in Golden, last I heard.

    Arrow double play

That would not be the first time that a Spyder would have been made in Golden CO USA & Japan both. The earliest Meerkat was made in Golden of 440c blade. A far superior knife IMO. I traded my last one away and I am not regretting it. I like yourself PLOWBOY try to be loyal to "Made in USA" items. I pretty much only wear Carhartt clothes, Redwing boots and USA made New Balance shoes. I try to go USA made whenever possible/feasable.

But I have to be the first to admit that Japanese made Spyders have superb quality. I am hoping to the highest level that the new Super Hawkbill will be made in Golden. I think we are ready for a premium USA made Hawkbill.

Wasn't there a discussion of the hawk being made in a couple of sizes? Or am I wrong again?

And JD you are right, my s made in Japan are great.

Buzzbait, hanks for listing the quote from Sal.

I hope the Cally 3 comes with teeth from end-to-end for Spydutch.

Yes, JD and company are pushing for a series of different sized Hawkbills, but the only one we've gotten confirmation on is the large Super Hawk.

We're still kicking around ideas for the smaller versions, no general consensus yet, but it took almost a year to get a consensus on the big one

Someone should start a thread about this.

    Scott,

thanks for the note. I know there was a lot of discussion on the hawk thread. I'll keep hoping for a hawk with approx 3" blade and 7" overall. G10 and s30v too.

    Super Hawk->Golden

From what I recall, the new SuperHawk will be made in Golden. Check Ted's A'dam thread for a more detailed description of the knife.
Ask me where I got my awesome SUPERHAWK!

    More like Mid-Cal now

Sal has said that one of the reasons the Caly 3 will be made in Japan is because they have so many other projects going in Golden. One of them is a version of the Military with a new blade steel (S125V?), and I believe a new type of lock.

Well it makes sense to build the Caly III in Seki, that's where every other Caly was made, so they obviously are familiar with the design, they know how to do it.
