spydercard times have changed

Since i purchased a spydercard off ebay, I was reading about the spydercard and came threads about spydercards and aiport security.

Now post 9/11 I know folks are more sensitive and please do not think I am advocating in any way shape or form to circumvent or break laws but is anyone still traveling with a spydercard?

Oh ! I thought a SpyderCard was a plastic thing you used to purchase even more Spyders on credit !!

Seriously, I find the SpyderCard a tad heavy for wallet carry. That titanium idea is great, but why not one on the lines of the CS NightShade series. This will get everyone in a flap !

Even the CoPilot - which was designed to meet carry-on concerns is on the black list now. Check out page 77 of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Guide to Concealable Weapons - 2003. I don't even risk my Swiss-Keys or Delta Z Pens anymore.

And titanium is not another option....improvements in security devices have made them more sensitive. ANY metal will disturb the electromagnetic fields they use - not just the more ferrous metals. Ti is detected but the threshold limits are normally adjusted so that surgical staples and Ti mesh do not trigger alarms. Hip, knee, and other large implants may trigger alarms and require handheld screening. A Ti CC knife is just more E-Bay income for Californiagold2000 (The state of California's ebay seller name) or some other agencies coffers.

The Spydercard was a great concept and pretty cool knife. Enjoy it but don't even think about carrying it in the airport....

I've had one in my wallet for a while now. It's good to keep the wallet a bulky enough to stay in the pocket, because we all know I don't have enough money to keep it thick

But I don't fly, so it's not an issue for me.

Couple months back someone I know was grumbling because they lost the Swisscard they'd forgotten was in their briefcase to airport security. If the "blade" on that is considered a potential weapon, then the Spydercard would be for sure.

Don't try to carry the Spydercard on the plane.

I like the Spydercard, but definitely don't carry it in a wallet, makes it thicker & heavier than I'd like. The Spydercard carries like a dream in a back pocket, by itself. Front pocket too, for that matter. And it's easier to get to that way also.

Fascinating to read that thread, times sure have changed a lot. I too find the Spydercard too big for true wallet carry. It is a good size for pocket-carry. Certainly doesn't print like a knife. And when open, you have three inches of Yojimbo-like blade.

Well let's all remember that nowadays (since 9/11) when traveling, TSA will have you take all loose change AND your wallet out of your pockets and put it in a little tray. THEN they will put the tray through the X-Ray. I remember thinking about this several times when going through the metal detector, so better not to chance it. Just remember to pack it with your checked baggage.
