Cool knife. Sweet pics.
I like mine although I don't carry it anymore. Eric of on/scene made me a GREAT sheath for it too.
Can't wait for the smaller Perrin thats coming out.

I must be up front an admit that I have not done anything at all with my Perrin. I have had the knife for about 5 months now but have not tested it out yet. I have been so enamored with the fixed blade Temperance that I have just put the Perrin on the back burner.
What if any advantages have you guys discovered with this blade? I would like to hear some test results from guys/gals who have both fixed blades and can give me a decent comparison. Other than self defense what do you all think that Fred Perrin had in mind when he designed it? I also wonder why this model really never took off at all in spite of the fact that they did advertise it very well?

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that it was designed with two purposes in mind. One was to be easily carried IWB because it was more discrete, and less likely to cause harassment by French authorities.Originally Posted by JD Spydo
The second was that it would have all the capabilities of a self defense knife, but would look like something more for culinary use, again with the intent to avoid harassment when carrying it.
It's been a while since I've read that, so my recollection of it may be off, or the article itself may have been totally wrong.
In any case, I need a Perrin![]()

IIRC it was mainly designed as a combat (therefore also utility work) knife, and that it was tested by French commando troops. I figured you were a Perrin fan Nicholas, judging from the way you tied that lanyard! I see that on all of Fred's blades. Cool griffe!

Thanks for posting the pics!
I love the clip point on this knife and it seems to be, overall, a lot of knife for the size.

I think the idea behind the Street Bowie is a plain looking blade, that can pretty much handle anything you throw at it. Tough, but light weight, easy to conceal if needed, but great in the kitchen also. I really like my Perrin, I liked it better then my Temperence(I still want a full SE Temperence, traded off my plain edge ones).
The Street Beat is looking good also, the thicker handle(if they keep that) would give excellent control(IMHO).
Blades
Hey JD, I think you have the $64000 question on why it didn't take off. If we knew that then, Spyderco would be able to engineer around it for better sales. My guess is that a lot of folks looking for a fixed blade are still enamored with the sharpened prybar concept. But who the heck knows. I like my Perrin quite a bit although I don't find the handle completely comfortable in anything other than sabre grip. Hammer grip, my prefered method, although workable just doesn't lend itself well to the handle design...at least for my hands. However, I am looking forward to the Street.
Here are a few pics to show of FB04:

Nice pics! Yeah its too bad the FB04 didnt really take off. Such a great design. Very nicely balanced.
It would have been better with either some G10 or Micarta scales though. Kraton and FRN on a fixed blade just dont do it for me.
Well we'll get the good stuff on the Street bowie...can hardly wait.Originally Posted by BOK

That is my only complaint about my Street Bowie. I thought that handle was a little small for me. So I wrapped it with F-4 tape or Tommy Tape(great stuff, kinda like a sport handle wrap, but no adhesive, sticks to itself, can be cut off clean) and it has made a world of difference. The tape is rubber(I think), so it grips well, and it gives alittle, so it absorbs impact also. Tommy Tape works great on hammers, you hardly feel the impact when hammering.
