    Ok...who EDC's a cricket...

and why? I have been on the fence about this little knife...thinking of picking up a SS model. The shape of this thing is really interesting....the look is classic, but utilitarian at the same time. I havn't seen one in person, so I really can't imagine actual size or feel. Will it fit on a keychain, for example? What seems to be the most common EDC blade...PE or SE....for it's short and nontraditional shape?

Thanks a lot....I look forward to everyone's opinions!

Howdy, I've had a Cricket for...two years? ...and I can tell you that it is a great EDC piece. I'm not going to get into the PE/SE debate, as it is largely a matter of preference, but the knife's small size and blade shape make it both effective and non-threatening. Works well on a keychain.

When I carry my SS Cricket, I usually put it in the watch pocket of my jeans. It is SE, and most of my other larger blades are PE, so it makes a nice complement to my main knife of the day (usually a Native or PE Rescue). I like it a lot.

Thanks guys! Lockback...that's an option I hadn't thought of before.....my normal EDC is a PE Para....the SE Cricket might be very complimentary! Thanks for the idea!

    Ditto above,.

I have a almite Cricket and it is excellent. Easy to carry and non threating as others have said. And it is ANOTHER Spydie that I did not understand till i got one and now I have three.

I find the SE blade to be more effective in this package - but do have one SE just to get to "understand" it better. Research - thats what I am doing ....Research.

My 3rd spydie purchase was a SE tufram cricket, I beat it hard enough at work opening dozens of boxes a night at BK...

Got a SS SE cricket about 2yrs ago, beat it even harder and it's still kicking. Ususally when I carry it, it goes IWB. Easy to draw, thin and small enough to go unnoticed all day.

But when I need to use it, BOY does she cut. boxes, wire, tape, drywall, rope... name it and I've probably cut it. I find a spydie-drop works best for opening, can just snap it open and palm the handle, using the hole for extreme tip control. Easy to shift from that grip if I use it to strip wire(and the teeth fit wire nicely).

I love the cricket so much I took it to Greece on my last big holiday:

The cricket rides very flat, with its mini hawkbill blade it not only cuts but simply rends through things like boxes. It is a great city carry blade.

Here are a few more of one of my favorites...

    Aloha ALL,

Ahhh the C29 in all it's glory...one of my all time favorite Spyders. My wife has a Pink SE version in her EDCR...I used to carry the SS PE version most recently. Back in the day, it was the Aluminum version in PE and then the FRN one...

Get the Cricket...you will be amazed at this lil' one!

there's always a SE cricket in my pocket, it's the perfect little guy for opening boxes, mail, cutting stuffs, without raising any eyebrows in the audience...
as for the size of this little bird, open it has the size of the Para's handle. I'll try to post some photos tonight.

I EDC a PE SS cricket on my keyring, it works really well. I recently converted a friend and the first he bought was a PE SS cricket for his keys

I'd go for serrated on this one. It makes the cutting edge longer, as we all know, and prevents slippage, which occured on a PE Dodo I reviewed on bladeforums some time ago:
    Dodo Review

It does, however, seem that the cricket does not have this problem as much, since its blade is thinner stock and is therefore not as thick at the edge.

PE para and SE cricket thats a great way to go, thats what i use
there are few things that the cricket cant do and of them most would mean needing a larger knife
http://www.ted.tweakdsl.nl/spyderco/actual.html and if you want to see about size alittle better that link is great
btw the SS cricket is abot 3/16 thick not counting the clip and fits great IWB

I have had the SS PE Cricket for over a year. I love this knife. I clip it in my right front jean pocket. It is the last thing "I put on" after my earrings. I don't leave home without it, and if I do, I turn around and go back and get it. It is great for everything--opening boxes, letters, CDs and the like, cutting twine on a round or hay bale or fishing line--and its leetle curved head is perfect for trimming my cigars (I tried using the SE Ladybug on my keychain, which left a ragged edge and a bloody impression in my thumb; and I sometimes use the SS PE Jester on my keychain, but Cricket seems particularly adept at the job). I love the size, shape, weight, and feel of the knife. Real women have curves, and real women carry SS knives with curves.

Okay, I confess. While I consider the Cricket my EDC knife and use it all the time, I usually have at least six to eight with me every day.
SE Ladybug and SS PE Jester are on my keychain; SE Native lives in the cell phone pocket of my purse. PE Ladybug and Dinosaur Bone Kiwi live with a Swiss Army penknife in the zip pocket of my purse. When I go contradancing, I clip Cricket to my skirt, and SS Osprey or SE Native goes in the dance bag. And if I'm fishing, add Catcherman to the list. Sometimes I will also wear the teeny, tiny SS SE Police necklace. Spydersaw is usually one of only two I'm carrying (the other being Cricket) when I'm working in the yard and not carrying a purse.

And I want the Spyderco Spin.

I wasn't always like this. I blame my hubby. I am resisting his Surefire and other flashlights obsession, but I recognize it is only a matter of time. Sigh.

    A small problem!

    Hello All

I used to EDC a Cricket sent to me by AET many moons ago. (Haven't seen him around for some time! ) Whether it was the way I gripped it or maybe a slight defect with the liner lock (I had cleaned it thoroughly and it was kept on a key chain outside my pocket so there was no lint it it) I don't know but it had a habbit of closing on me in use.

I have a fairly large hand and am more comfortable with a slightly larger knife but for intricate cutting jobs the Cricket is fine.
