    The Feel of Steel

    Hello Everyone,

I have been really pulled towards the feel and weight of steel lately. I think it may have started with the purchase and carry of my Spyderco Karambit blade. S.S. seems to give a reasuring heft and weight. I am not as weight sensitive as some (no pun intended), and after looking at the Endura 4 S.S. earlier this week with the upgrades really gained more of an approval from me. Yeah, Yeah I know about the G10 handles and scales etc. and I for one can apreciate the practicallity of those handles for extreme conditions(S.D., heavy duty cutting or working etc.) It is just something about S.S. Is there anyone else out there that feels this way or know what I am talking about? This is wierd for me because I would not even consider a S.S. handled blade in the past.

    SS handles

I really like the Police model in a stainless handle. However I had a Rookie in a stainless handle and it just didn't feel right to me at all. I no longer have it for that reason. When I had the SS handled Native with AUS-10 blade steel it was truly my favorite Native at the time.

Stainless handled knives definitely have their place. But as far as my all out favorite handles I like titanium and G-10 the best of all. Micarta really is nice for everyday carry.

The one grip I got against stainless handled knives is the re-sale value. I just recently put up 2 Stainless handled Calypso Juniors on Ebay and I was horribly disappointed with the outcome of those 2 auctions. But I do want Spyderco to keep making them. My recent aquisition of the Adventura model in Stainless handles is really nice. Actually I can't imagine that Blade having any other handle.

Hey JD, thanks for the reply. I have had my phobia's about the S.S. and I am far from changing my mind on G10,micarta even frn. Oh and you just had to mention that Adventura! Major interest there. How does that compare to the A.T.R. S.S. to you? Other owners of both please give feedback until I luck up and can get them in hand to compare.

    Thumbs up

Hey stonyman, OH Yeah SS !!! I don't have many spydies. But, all are SS except 3 or 4 of them. I understand exactly what you're talking about. The Heft, Durability, and Confidence in knowing you have a Piece of Steel in your hand that will perform. For me, it's the weight. I like Heavy/Powerful Feeling knives. Of course all the gear I carry On-Duty, a little more weight doesn't bother me. In Law Enforcement, an Officer just gets used to the weight. I Love the Feel of SS, and Know What You're Talking About Brother . Take Good Care and Be Safe Brother.

    God Bless

The Adventura is the SS for people who don't like SS.

Wow, I was just thinking about the SS knives today. I came to the opinion that those who complain about the carry weight must not wear jeans. In a pair of sturdy Levi's, Wranglers, etc. you don't notice the weight at all. However if you slip on some slacks, the Police model, for example, just doesn't ride well and weighs down a pocket.

Open or closed, the SS Police makes an excellent self defense tool. I'm a fan of SS.

    Hello stonyman-

Yes there is something about those stainless steel spydies. They just look good! Some don't like the weight or that it can be slippery but the s/s ones are my favs.

I think it's a spyderco thing just like the hole! Who else offers such knives!
    luv em'.

    So true.

I'm not typically a fan of SS, but the Adventura is the knife that made me give it a chance. Now I actually enjoy the SS handles.

I like the hefty feel and stiffness of a SS Spyder with good fit& finish

Maybe only one downside though, the eventually blade play cannot be corrected as easily(if at all ) as FRN(peening pivot ) or G10(adjustable pivot )

    Aloha Stony man,

Yep...another for SS. I liked the feel of my ol' C01, but it was the C07 that REALLY got me into liking the SS models. Only time I didn't really care for them was when I used to be restocking the freezer!

    God bless and take care
