Question K2 Looks Good>> outdoor folder?

Yeah I just took a look at it on an obscure website that had a great pic of it. I do like the concept of a big folder with a big blade. But I still want to know when they are ever going to release the BISON model which I seen a prototype of at a Dallas Texas USA knife show some time back. I was impressed with it's bulk and ridgidity and thought it would be an ideal hunting/folder.

But I'm willing to give this K2 model a fair trial and see what it has to offer. I am encouraged that Spyderco is venturing into new areas. I would like to see what Sal Glesser has designed for big knives. I also want to know if the BISON was one of Sal's designs>> I never asked who designed it originally.

I did notice that the K2 is made with the CPM 10V blade steel. If it's designed to be an outdoor/hunting type folder then I think the steel selection is a good one. That's one of the Crucible steels I've never got to test drive yet.

The Bison? Isn't that what the Tatanka was called while in development? Or, is that another blade?

Farid said it will be full flat ground, which I really like too.
It's just hard trying to save the bread for the K2 and not slip and buy a pm2 in digi camo/dlc from gpk- they just sent me an email that they have those in stock.
I'm tempted to pull the trigger on one lol...

Not sure about that>> however I won't say no either. Because I'm sure they have had name changes before for various reasons.

The first time I ever saw the prototype of the Bison was at a knife show in Dallas Texas USA a few years back at Spyderco's booth at the show. They had other prototypes as well but that BISON had muscle. It was a really big bladed folder that looked to me like it would have been a near perfect outdoor or hunting folder. It's funny because I've only heard it talked about sporadically since then. I remember talking to Eric Glesser at that booth and he was impressed with it as well. I also thought what a mean blade that would have been in a full Spyderedge or even a good combo edge for that matter.

I hope it wasn't scratched from being in the line up>> but I haven't heard about it much either. This new K2 knife kind of reminds me of it in a lot of ways. And maybe the folks at the Great Spyder Factory thought this model is better for whatever reason.

I think the Bison may very well be the Tatanka.
The Tatanka will feature a Saber grind. AFAIK

As much as I like the k2 if it doesn't have a lock bar insert and a stabilizer I will probably pass. The tip down only carry does not appeal to me either. Tatanaka is definitely a go on the other hand!

I believe "Tatanka" is the Lakota word for bison...

I am very tempted by the Spyderco K2... but then I saw on bladeforums that Farid is planning to do a run of lefty K2's in 2015. (Was in a thread for orders of a current run of regulars K2's in D3 steel.) Decisions, decisions.

GKnives is saying: COMING SOON (ESTIMATED IN Q4 2014):

    http://www.spyderco.com/forums/newre...treply&t=64312

Definitely watching for this one. Never had a knife with a 10V steel blade...

Between this one and the cf/s90v yo2 coming out in the same time frame I'm thinking the ole wallet might be a good bit emptier at the end of the year..

I'm still very interested in the Chief...the bigger Native. That is one to look for!

Though I am looking forward to the K2 as well.

    Hey MacLaren,

We're looking to late summer, early fall.

    Hi JD,

The Bison is a separate design that I designed years ago. It's still sitting on the design shelf. Maybe we should look at it again?

The "Tantanka" is a model that I designed to be a large knife for the "Power lock". We needed a name and Our Purchasing Manager came up with the Lakota name. We're getting requests for large models. The K2 is one of the models to answer those requests. If we go forward with the Bison, we'll use a different name.

Anyone have an idea of what price will be?
So many nice ones coming out like the Yo2, Tatanka,
Mike Draper etc... I need to figure out which I can afford.

Well, I realize its not early fall, but we could call this late summer right?

Im pretty stoked about this K2. I wander what sort of price we'll be looking at as well.
Coming from Taichung, I'm betting the K2 will be legend.....
