    Area Code 416?

    Hey all,
I live 65 miles north of NYC, for the past three years I've been picking up some long distance radio signals from places like Rhode Island, and Boston, and today I confirmed that I was listening to a station from the TORONTO area (almost 500 miles driving distance), I thought that the station (on the 1010am frequency) was Canadian but haven't ever heard a station ID or commercial before today, when they ran a commercial for a plumber? in the 416 area code!! Weird huh? I don't get the station all of the time, just the occasional 4-5 minute snippet. Confirms for me what a very small world we do live in.
    Cheers,

1010 CFRB in Toronto. One of the long standing Toronto talk radio stations.

Not so much during the day, but it is amazing the range of reception for many AM stations - especially the high power transmitters. Ths signals aren't uniform circles but often transmit much further in some directions than others. On nights with good conditions I can easily get Chicago here in Nothern Ontario.

My friends and I used to listen to am stations from Chicago late at night.
We could only pick them up late but that was when many of the local am stations went off air at night.I guess that cleaned up the air so we could pick signals up from father away.

On a ride back from florida one year in may, it was sleeting in VA and I was on the way to boston from college. I put on the AM channel 1030 and I was surprised to hear WBZ out of BOSTON!! 800 miles away.

One night several years ago a handheld radio was laying on the floor of my closet at an angle, and I stepped on it turning it on. Low and behold it was on "clark Howard" who had just lost his Los Angeles Affiliate. the signal was coming from Las Vegas! Now that was weird!

I use to be able to pick up our local AM station when I would plug my Wah-Wah pedal up to my amp with distortion Nothing like finishing up Cream's "White Room" and having country feeding through at the end Rock ON!
