Never Tried This Before. How Did I Do?

A friend at work brought me an old Delica with a broken tip. About 1/4 of an inch was gone. He asked if I could do anything to improve it. I told him I had never tried before, but I would like to. He said the knife was between 10 and 15 yrs old. It has the G-2 stainless blade i it. I don't know anything at all about this steel, but did not seem to bad to work. I gave the knife a very small drop point and used a grinder to get somewhat of a point back. The blade is pretty thick out at the end, but I was not sure what else to do. Any way, this gives him a useable knife again. Please tell me how you think I did. Please also tell me how you feel I could improve it. I would like to know. I would like to really make him happy when I give it back!
Here are a couple of pics of the knife. I wish I would have thought about a before picture. The tip was in pretty poor shape!

Thanks for any feedback. This was kinda fun.

Ron, it appears you did an excellent job of returning that Delica to serviceable condition. Plus, in a way it may be an improvement over the original, still "pointy" enough for tasks where that is a plus, but thicker, and thus less prone to snapping off again. Very good work!

Well done Ron, looks like an excellent reprofiling of the tip.

That knife has obviously seen a lot of love. Give it a thorough sharpening, and your friend will love it.

Hey ront, Awsome job/excellent. Besides what you did, not much else I believe you could have done with it. Another Vote here for a "Job Well Done". It looks much like the New Delica 4 tip now. Your friend will be impressed and happy with it.

    God Bless

    Very nice.

My very first spydy a few years back was the Calypso Jr. I loved that knife. I did the same thing snapped a little less than an 8th off the tip.... I kept it but shortly thereafter lost it....

    Wish I still had it.

    Good work, Coop

    Ron,

I'm a little late to the party, but I also think you did a good job. I did something similar to a CRKT Crawford/Kasper Folder once only I just tantoed it. Don't think there is much else you can do.

Nice job. I bought my first Delica with the same problem. I didn't use a grinder tho. I used several honing stones with similar results. My Delica FRN handles with FRN clip, no Boye dent, AUS-8A stainless steel blade looks like the one you have pictured. I like it even tho it has a shorter blade than a new Delica. It cuts just as well as the longer blade. Works great in the kitchen.

Good job, I doubt I could have redone a tip like that on my first go at it.

Great job, Ront !! Did you use a Dremel or a bench grinder ? My local hardware store has stock of the Tormek grinder. Anybody here use such a beast ? And is it good for re-profiling or only for sharpening ?
