    A better Salt

I love this knife, light, thin, easy to handle, and with the 3" blade, large enough to handle most of my chores.

It does however, lack the slicing ability of say my Calypso Jr with it's full flat grind. Well, I took a little time and came up with some changes to make it a little better.

I was able to flat grind the blade easily and left the blade to a 200 grit finish. This blade scratches easily, so a less shiny finish will hide scratches. I also changed the profile slightly to look like the D'Allard drop point, a very pleasing profile indeed. Then a shorter titianium clip and thus a better salt.

please see pics, note the background is the famious FEMA blue tarp:

Very nice! I like that blade shape, I think it is an improvement over the original. Nice piece of DIY.

Nice work gull wing. How did you flat grind the blade and how long did it take?

That is NICE gull wing! I too would love to know how you did this, very nice job. Kinda reminds me of the Stretch now in a way.

Nice. I like the flat grind of the CJ also. Very good for whittling which I do a lot of.

The H1 does seem to scratch up a bit doesn't it? Mine too. I reprofiled my blade also only it is more like the Delica for picking splinters now. Of course I also rebuilt the body more like a CJ with a choil too but had not thought to flat grind the blade or even try. I bet you work hardened the blade a mite better doing that so it may even start holding an edge better for you now too.

Interesting mod! I prefer flat grinds, or high saber ones.

Very nice GW. I really like that idea. Thinking a "wharnified", flat ground, PE Atlantic would be darn close to perfection for me.

Thank you all for the great comp's. It was most enjoyable to do.

I hope it does "work harden" the blade a mite. I flat ground it mostly so I could slice apples easily, but I do whittle also. Have not tested it yet. I left the non-point on so it would look the least thratening possible.

I did the grinding on my Jack LeBlanc belt grinder, 2"x72" ceramic belt, with 1.5 horse Baldor motor. You can do it on a Sears 1 x 36 or 3 x 42 belt grinder, I have before they work well. Start with a corse belt then move to the finer ones. This is very easy, but if it's your first time it may be wise to practice on scrap. Note, don't expect perfection, factory finish is hard to match.
