    We Need Sleep!!! Help!!!!

Ok Boy's and Girls.... Need your help here.... We live out in the sticks of South West Missouri on 9 acres.... For the last 3 months or so there is this animal sound that has been waking the wife and I up almost every night between 3 - 5 in the morning... It is a very loud chirping sound, to describe it it sounds like a prarie dog or what I call a large rock chuck... We get up with large spot lights and look in the trees, on the ground, on the roof about every where we can and have yet to see anything.... We have fox, coon, possum, hoot owels and deer here on the porperty but we don't think it is any of them.... Been asking around at the sporting good places in town what it could be.... One of the local guys today said, "heck, sounds like a Armadillo to me" can anyone confirm this...?? I can tell you this.... It is loud and sets you right up in bed.... Any of you Spydie bros out there ever have a problem like this.... Either way..... No matter what it is... It must go, whether it is a trap or a 12g shotgun....

    Sincerely

    Sleepless in Missouri....

Hey Woody, Sorry about your sleepless nights. I was thinking maybe a coyote pup. They make some squeaking sounds. If the locals are saying an armadillo, got me there. I did a Google search found some interesting sites. If you go to Google, put in "Armadillo FAQ", you'll get some interesting info that may help you out. Hope this helps a bit. Good Luck and Take Care.

    God Bless

    Woody,
Try contacting your local county Cooperative Extension office. Ask to speak to a Natural Resources or Wildlife Agent. They would be most familiar with what is in your area. They would also be likely to provide methods for removal of the critter, whatever it may be. Another option would be your State Division of Wildlife, but I'd suggest the Extension office first.

    Good luck!

Although, it's "good" to know, I'm not the only one losing sleep. Of course my critter is my 6 month old baby girl (she's been battling with RSV for the last 3 weeks). Hang in there, this too shall pass.

    Woody-
Sounds like a "Big Foot" to me! Or do they only have them in the Pacific Northwest?

If not a big foot and seeing that your from Missouri than it might possibly be that J D Spydo!

    Sorry couldn't help it!

In Chicago we call them crackheads...

I'd call your local game and fishing commisson and/or wildlife agency. They might be able to help out.

Well it has been six months since this all started... I believe we have found the midnight screamer... Can't guarantee it but I would bet my new Endura Wave on it... We went about 2 months since it's last chirp / call what the heck ever it is but it is sure annoying... Anyway wifey was watching for dear out the window and she sees this guy out in the middle of the yard munching on green grass... I grabbed the camera (no not the gun haha) and tried to get a shot of it in the yard... When we cracked the door to get a shot of it, it took off towards the house and dove under one of the decks... Told the wife, I bet ya that is what the heck has been waking us up.... If I had to guess he/she has to be about 10 - 12 lbs... Wife named him/her Rocky.... We will let him stay till he starts his midnight screaming again... Once he does that I will try moth balls to drive him out.... Anyway just wanted to kick this back up and post a pick of Rocky the ground hog....

I have seen many ground hogs but have never heard them make a sound.
I was thinking that it may be a Snipe (brown bird that nest on the ground) we have some around here and the sound you descibe is just the sound they make.
They however don't stay around for long periods of time.
