    Weekend Diamond Project

Well I bought two packs of the diamond sharpening plates from Harbor Freight on sale for $8 each. There are three different grits in each pack (180, 260 and 360...I think). I didn't like having to guess the angle with them laying flat so I thought I would borrow Sal's idea and mount them at the right angle. That way all I have to do is slide the knife straight down for the perfect 30° angle.

My son-in-law gave me some 2'x4' pieces of one inch thick plywood. I measured the size I wanted and then set the block of wood on the edge of the Spyderco Sharpmaker and transfered the 30° to the wood. Then I cut it out and glued the two shapes together with Gorilla glue. I sanded them down the next day and nailed two of the 360 grit pads on the angles.

I sharpened (reshaped) a pocket knife and two 10" kitchen knives then went to work on the Sharpmaker to get them to hair popping sharpness. My wife asked if I was going to go through her knife drawer and sharpen all of her knives???

Here is what it looks like...

Yes it is very stable. The 2" wide base is 8.5" long and 9.5" tall is not only stable but easy to hold on to with your left hand. I set it on one of those wooded TV trays which is the right height to work on.

    What a great idea

Very nice, this system would work perfectly too, I think, for reprofiling/removing chips out of the serrations with round diamond stones(very carefully)

    Thanks very much for sharing.

My wife handed me two serrated knives this morning before I went to work. They are a weird serration with straight lines to the edge like...lllllllllllllll... Problem is the edge was curled over and it has chunks missing out of it. I ran the back side down the diamond to knock off the curled edge. I then ran the serrated edge down the 30° diamond to put an edge to the...lllllllllllll...if I could. I told her that this is not a "normal" knife so there wasn't much that I could do for it. It came out pretty sharp but not hair popping.
