    Sophisticated Lady Falls for DODO

I'm new as a participant in this forum, but thought you may appreciate (or at least enjoy) this true story.

I had been looking at the Dodo for some time and thinking that I would get one someday. When it became official that the Dodo was going extinct, I decided to buy several of them. So, after making the decision to buy I was poking around the forum and landed on Axlis' posting titled Blue DoDo! (12/08/05). Axlis has some great pictures there...take a look if you haven't. Anyway, my wife happened by the computer and noticed the blue Dodo. Much to my surprise, she fell for it. You might say she was sypder bitten by the Dodo.

I couldn't believe it! You see my wife is a sophistacted lady. She is a trained classical pianist, she likes the theater, reads high-end literature, and in many ways she's just "uptown."

I, on the other hand, am just a plain country boy. I drive my old Massey-Ferguson tractor around, shoot my muzzleloader, and read Louis Lamour. I'm unsure what attracted her to me...at least I'm assuming there was (and is) some attraction. But I never dreamed my sophistacated lady would fall for a spyderco knife. The Dodo got her, though.

This was my chance to start molding this "uptown" lady. The next day I was on the telephone ordering a blue Dodo (sort of like Axlis did for his wife). She doesn't know it yet, but she will have her own Dodo under the Christmas tree.

Who knows, I may have her driving the old Massey-Ferguson yet. We farm boys do have a way with the women you know.

Anyway, I am expecting the Dodo knives that I ordered to arrive tomorrow...her blue one in the bunch. Who knows, the Para-Military that is in my pocket now may be displaced by the Dodo (I really do think the Dodo will work well around the farm).

I'll let you all know how my sophistacated lady reacts to the Dodo. In the mean time, say a prayer that she likes it as much as she did Axlis' pictures.

    Have fun and stay sharp!

Congrats on the new Dodo's. Back when i was working in the cutlery department full time i was always playing w/ a knife in my free time. When there was no stocking or pricing, and no customer at that moment, i would always make sure to check out all the new product, then went straight to practicing my opening. Several times i had a female customer come up to me when i was playing w/ my Dodo. All of them seemed to like the look of it, and were impressed w/ how easy it was to open. My cricket got a similar response, perhaps if your wife likes the dodo enough you can look into a cricket for her next spyderco. Im glad to hear the Dodo has found another home. Enjoy it as it is one of the finest knives I have seen, and you already know the advantages of S30V blade steel because of your Para. Take care, and let us know how your lady reacts, and how the Dodo handles farm work.

Nice Story and welcome to the forum. Don't know about it replacing the Para-Military, I'd think somthing more like the full size Milie would be good on the farm.

That's a great knife to get your wife into knives

For some reason the Dodo appeals to women, and I can't figure out why.

    Welcome to the forum.

Okay, my Dodos arrived yesterday afternoon. Very nice knife. I was playing with one this morning and the darn thing bit me...on both hands. I need to get used to operating the ball lock while folding the knife. Both bites were while closing the blade. The thing is so sharp that I was thinking I need to sharpen it....that surely would make it less sharp.

We are in the middle of an ice storm here, so I'll be inside most of the day. Who knows, I may get bitten again.

Thanks to all of you for welcoming me to the forum.

I was thinking (and I'm sure this isn't orginal to me) that this forum should be titled the SPYDER WEB.

Well, I should go and wrap the blue Dodo for my sophisticated wife.

    Stay sharp.

I.Lager - you note how the women were impressed with how easy the Dodo is to open - but any of them have long nails and try to close it? A booger! No can do w/them, so I hope Plowboy your wife doesn't have long nails or she'll discover same. Why do women like the Dodo? Serious knife in a compact shape, easy to hold on to, ad I know others who they've bitten. The Dodo IS a biter! Aesthetically, the combination of curves and angles in a compact design is lovely. Girls like lovely and effective together. ; )

My wife keeps her nails fairly short so she can play the piano. Hopefully, she will keep her fingers and won't have to give up playing...but boy did that Dodo bite me. Latter in the day I praticed openning and closing it and didn't get bitten any more. It is definitely different to handle than the Para, but I do like the Dodo quite a lot.

Mr. Michael Cook, thanks for your note on my sharpening skills. I understand the Dodo is a bit tricky to sharpen, but I am determined to master it. I saw a posting the other day by someone (can't remember who right now) that said the old "cat eye" shaped rod in the Galley V worked well on the Dodo. Does anyone know if the slipstone rod that sypderco is making is similar to the "cat eye?"

    Thanks and stay sharp.
