    Delica Deluxe?

If the ZDP-189 Delica sprint run does well, Spyderco should put it into regular production. Sell it as a premium (but still affordable) version of their bestseller. Put ZDP in everyones pocket, and destroy the competition!

Gee, do you think that's what Sal has in mind?

What I'd really like to see is a titanium or steel lined tip up carry folding knife in G10 scales with a blade type like the CJ has (flat grind with the splinter picker point in 1/8" thickness), a CJ choil type handle and a Salt 1 sized 14mm hole with non sharpened serrations for grip. All this in H1 or VG10 blade steel. (ZDP189 will work also) This would combine the best of all three models into one folder.

Its pretty much what I like about all three anyway and wished I could find all in one knife when I made my own.

    Hey Catamount,

That's a good question. The original plan was a sprint, but reaction to the Caly jr in ZDP was better than guessed.

The new Delica 4 is a highly refined model (dual nested skeletonized stainless liners, etc.) and a ZDP version might be a nice offering.

The down side; FRN and stainless versions, plain, combination and serrated edges + waved models + trainers make for many SKUs, not always an advantage.

    Hi Redhawk,

We're working on a "Caly 3". bolstered, lock-back using the UKPK pattern. A VG-10 version and a ZDP version. More of a Hi-line "afi" model. Probably won't be high quantity.

Haven't selected scale materials yet. They'll be different for the two steel versions.

It's still a good 6 months off, so we don't even have protos yet. I figure that I want one, so there are probably a few others that would enjoy the pattern "done up right".

Justice be done to the Caly jr. May I suggest a nice piece of wood for the scales?

Interesting. I'll be curious to see how this one turns out.

Well, I like what I am hearing. I wanted a UKPK, now it will be possible.
There is a lot in this knife that I like, 3" blade, lock back, UK design, and the bolster for good measure.
The knives that I use most are around 3", so this is great.
    Thanks!

Would serrated versions be practical to produce given the hardness of ZDP? In any event, I would limit it to PE (at least at first) to keep things simple.

I think this could really work in conjunction with the introduction of the Delica 4. The marketing should really emphasize the virtues of ZDP. Something like "Delica Z, the next step in the evolution of a classic" You could use quotes from users here and on bladeforums.

Does 'modeled by' the UKPK mean that it will have the great low-riding clip of the UKPK?

If so, that would be the perfect knife we've been clamoring for!

I had the UK Penknife but couldn't deal with the slipjoint. All I need is the UKPK with a lockback and I'd be so happy!

Sal, that is absolutely a dream come true for me! "...would enjoy the pattern "done up right"." is about the greatest understatement ever. That is one run I can and will order sight unseen with not a doubt in my mind. This is sooooo awesome! Thank you very much!

Looks like great news, thank you Mr. Glesser.
OTOH, it looks like I'm the only one interested in a serrated ZDP blade...
