I'll try to keep this brief. Ran into an old co-worker while waiting for my wifey in the parking lot outside the mall. We used to work as mall security together.
Anyway, he says to me, "Check out THIS knife!" He takes out some kinda G***** folder, aluminum, PE, three massive cutouts in the handles, linerlock, tipdown. As I was looking at it, he asked what I was carrying. I took out my C83 Ed Schempp Persian. "Oh...you're still carrying "those" knives?" He did NOT just challenge my carrying 's did he? Or did he? It was ON!!! I grabbed my CE FRN Endura from outta the glovebox as it would not have been fair to put up my Persian against his G*****! Plus, there was a reason for the need for FRN. Read on.
I asked him why he chose this G***** folder, and he was like, "Cause it opens FAST, watch this..." He then tried doing a wrist flick, IIRC, he got it open on the third time. (Now, WHY is it that when people do this type of opening they always seem to do it so that if the knife flies outta their hand it'll hit you?) Made me nervous watching him do this as there was not much handle to hold onto with them cutouts! I took my Endura and placed it in left front pocket, yet the clip was still placed for a righty. He said, "Eh, you're right handed though?" I then did my left handed reverse grip drop with my Endura. Taught him how to do it with his G folder so he wouldn't kill anyone, or take an eye out with his wrist flick opening! Then I said...
"Can your clip be switched?" Nope. "Unlock your G folder with your left hand." LOL, I had fun watching him do this as this was his first time he ever tried unlocking a right handed liner lock with his left hand! I showed him how my could be opened and closed with either hand. Then, I walked to the end of my car and said, "Do exactly what I do with my knife but with yours okay?" He agreed. I asked, "You promise now?" He was like, "Yeah, yeah, hurry up, I gotta go!" I squated down and slid my closed Endura clip side up to him on the asphalt and waited for him to do the same with his G folder. "No ways, you crazy or what?" I was like, "Or what?" "I ain't gonna slide my knife on the ground! It's gonna get trashed!" I smiled, as the FRN survived very well. So much for "promises".
He opened and closed my Endura a few times, studying it. I noticed he was checking out the barrel bolt and I told him how the clip could be changed to right or left hand carry. He liked the feel of the Endura and the fact that it could be opened, closed, and carried for/with either hand. Even slid on the ground for that matter! His cell phone rang, he walked off a bit, handling my Endura and then his G folder...I got back in my car and grabbed my Persian.
He comes to my car saying, "Okay then brah, gotta go. I gotta get me one of these knives!" Imitating him from earlier I said, "Wha? You sure you wanna carry one of "those" knives?" He then said some words that I cannot write here. We did our usual handshake and shoulder hug, and I said, "Here man...carry a real knife." He was shocked, refused to take my Endura, but I insisted. I tried to justify that it was the least I could do after I just cut down his "pride and joy" knife. A few more words that i cannot type here, in a "good way" though came from his mouth, accompanied by another handshake shoulder hug, and we said our goodbyes.
As I watched him walk away through my driver side mirror, I could see him place the Endura in his left pocket and try the reverse grip drop, he couldn't do it and he looked back, laughing. Trippy, as far as he was, I then heard, *Click*...*Click*...*Click*...
Now...what to put in my dashboard to replace my Endura?
God bless and thanks for reading...I thought it was funny.
