It's a metal tube bead with antique copper finish I found at Hobby Lobby. It's hard to find beads with a hole big enough to pull the cord thru. The hole diameter needs to be about 4mm.

Great idea! It looks cool too. Great pic, as always.Originally Posted by Stormdrane

better to have a knife and not need it
than to need a knife and not have it
Stormdrain,
How do you do that, the loop on the knife end. I've been trying to figure it out but no luck.
Thanks,
Traderdell

When starting the square sinnet knot, just make one length of the two pieces of cord longer. For example: a lanyard with a 3" loop and a 3" body requires two pieces of cord, one piece approx 38" and the other piece approx 44". Hold the ends of each separate piece together then hold them side by side and you'll see that one extends 3" past the other. That's where you start the knot. Check www.boondoggleman.com for step by step pics on different knots, he uses some plastic strips, but it's the same for the paracord.Originally Posted by traderdell

I remove the inner strands for square and round knot lanyards because otherwise it'd be too thick to fit thru the lanyard hole. I leave it in when tying a plain hangman's knot lanyard or a lanyard with a couple of knots or with paracord bracelets. Tip: use a piece of string or dental floss to pull the loop thru the lanyard hole as they're usually a tight fit for the loop and this also works for pulling the loop thru a bead.

Thanks, much easier without the inner core.

Stormdrane, Could you please share where you get the ends for the paracord bracelets?
Thanks,
Traderdell
Sure, here's a link, and I recommend the 3/8 or 1/2 inch size.Originally Posted by traderdell

Okay, I meant to get these out earlier because my previous pics were terrible. I did these with my 35mm SLR. Hope they turned out better.

Special thanks to GuideSeries for:
the all orange cord, and the OD Green cord.
Also, special thanks to J Smith for:
the red/black/silver cord on the Meadowlark; the black/orange cord for the small Monkey’s Fist; the camo whipping for the Cricked, the Vietnam era para cord, which is kind of like OD tan with black slashed, and was used on the Crossbill, as well as for the Monkey’s Fist between the orange, and OD green Monkey’s Fists.

Actually, I didn't put any weight in mine. I also tied them so one end is inside the Fist. That way I don't have to cut an burn, and it doesn't hang outside the Fist.
Here's a link to a good tutorial.

Does anyone have an online source for the accessory cord? Is it 2mm or larger?
Traderdell
I have been finding it at Wal Mart,it is 3mm but some is a little smaller and some a little larger.Originally Posted by traderdell

Jeff, the only problem is that is appears all Walmarts do not carry the same products.
I can say with reasonable certainty that the Walmarts in this area do not carry any of that cord. Have checked the sporting goods departments in the half dozen or so closest to me without any success, since you first mentioned it and its source.
Traderdell, if you Google "climbing cord" or "rock climbing cord" you'll find several places that carry 2mm and 3mm, never dealt with any of them, so can't give any reccommendations. Will say some of the prices are a bit breathtaking, so it might be a good idea to put your coffee down and swallow before checking them out.![]()

At times it is hard to find here.It is located in sporting goods with the other rope but is in a small box on the self.I have found that box pushed behind other stuff and when they run out it may be a week or more before anymore is restocked. The last 2 Wal Marts I was in had none on the shelf and if you ask someone about it they have no idea what you are talking about.
