Mail came yesterday with my REI Paracord, so I made a few stabs at tying some lanyards. This was my first attempt, and I have to say this is harder than it looks. The hardest part for me was getting the initial loop to stay while tying the starter stitch. I want to get some of those skull beads for the top loop, it really helps the look of the lanyard. Something like a drilled ball bearing would also look really good. Thanks for all the inspiration, my wife did come home wondering what the h*ll had gotten into me, though.

I sometimes tye another piece of cord or string around the loop at the point were the loop and starter stitch meet when beggining a new lanyard. Once I've got the stitch going I take it off.

You can also use hemostats or even a clothespin to help hold your loop when starting.

A few ACU digital camo skull knockers.

depending on what i am using the fob on, i either tie the string or as of late i have just been using double overhand knot in its place. which ever one works best for you, they will both get the job done.

stormdrane; those acu's are super. I finally got the hang of the monkey fist. It takes me probably three times as long as others to make one but here is one with glow in the dark cord with no ball bearing inside and a clip on the end.

    Thumbs up My First.....

Well thanks to all of your great pics, links, and advice I finally figured this out. I'm not sure how you guys do this by yourselves (my wife helped me pull the knots). Let me know how your pulling the knots by yourselves. I started with the easy stuff first but I wanna do some spirals also. Got some cheap cord from Wal-Mart and some beads and they turned out pretty nice but I'm gonna order some different colors and beads for more. Thanks again everyone.

    Welcome to the forum SHADY1475.

I think tightening them is more a matter of figuring what works for you. Spirals are pretty easy since there are only two working ends instead of the four in the Square/Round Sinnet. See my sig for a pictorial for it.

Nice work, and thanks for the pic.

Thanks guys!! It's great to be here.

    Ghostrider,

I saw a pictoral of the Cobra knot but not the twist. I'll give that one a try also. I like the look of these from Stormdrane. Thanks again.

    Clip Lanyard?

So I've been looking at the Kiwi recently, and think it would make a perfect dress knife. My problem is that I'm so used to clips that I don't like having to dig in my pocket to get to a knife. The Stainless Kiwi doesn't have a clip (and it shouldn't) but it has a lanyard hole. I've been thinking of attatching one to a 1-2 inch stainless chain, with the other end of the chain attatched to a clip that would clip on my pocket- a lanyard clip. Anyone ever heard of this. A tie clip is my best idea so far, something like this...http://www.gemologica.com/tie-clip-s...lry-p-177.html
I think the end result would work well and look nice too, whadda you think?

Welcome to the forum LukeC. That sounds like a pretty good idea for what you want to accomplish.

    SHADY1475,
The Cobra Knot is the same thing as the twist. You just don't alternate ends, and that results in the twist.

    Question

OK well i guess my next question is how do I make the lanyard loop? After I figure these out I'm gonna make some tutorials with better pics and instructions. Boondoggle's pics are hard to see. If all of us did one or two tutorials it wouldn't take long to have all of them. Just an idea. Thanks for the help.

Did you look at the pics in the thread in my sig? Post #11?

All you need to do with the Cobra Twist is make sure you leave enough for the loop. It is a bit tricky at first to figure out how much cord is needed for the knotting itself, but once you got that down, figuring the loop is easy.

Some pocket watches have chains with clips on the end like you have in mind. You might try picking up an inexpensive one at wallyworld, cut the chain to the desired length, and use a split ring or a jump ring to attach it to your Kiwi.

    Question

    Ghostrider,

Now that I figured out the Cobra Twist, how do I modify it into the Cobra Stitch? I gotta say that this thread is a great source of info on this stuff. Thanks again for the help.
