It can be both. I'd recommend starting with something like a square or round sinnet knot.

I might have been the one that said I used a lanyard(fob) to use to pull the knife out of my pocket. here is a pic. Good discussion on uses and preferences.

Actually this was what I was thinking about. I remembered it because the lanyard seemed so long, and colorful. Don't see b-elliott around here much anymore which is a shame since he did some fasinating stuff. However, I'm sure lots of people have thought about using the fob in that way, including myself.

I prefer to tie with climbers accessory cord over the para cord. The flatness of the para doesn't look as good or tie as easily to me as the full stiffer climbing stuff. Unless, that is, you're making certain sinnetts or braids that work better with flat cord. It also seems to come in a wider variety of colors. The brands I usually use are Bluewater and Sterling and you can find these in most camping stores.

I also don't find it gets in the way, unless it's too long, becasue it is usually in the hand when you open the knife. I've never had it attract too much attention and in fact I have even used it as a pull to get the knife out of my pocket. I just drop the whole thing in the pocket, except the last button knot and when I need it I just grab the knot and pull the whole thing out. That way the whole knife is concealed. Granted it isn't as quick or handy as using the knife clip, but sometimes it's just better that way. It also works well as a quick pull keyring.

    Thanks.

Gander_Man, over at CPF designed it, and I properly named it the JFBF (Jumbo Fat Boy Fob). Kinda has a ring to it don't you think?

    Great work as always David.

Here's a wrist strap I did this morning with some thin Type I paracord(foilage green).

Good for working around a dock, boat, or up a ladder.

    Thanks SD,
Interesting, I was in a sporting goods store a few months back, and they had a duck lure lanyard done in the Cobra Stitch (Soloman Bar) like you have there. It was Cobra Stitch and the Cobra Twist in places. Had a few loops for the duck lures on it. Made out of poor quality cord and tied very loosly. I mean "flimsy" knid of loose.

I decided to try one with the braid/plaite instead. Can't believe how much cord it took. I didn't use enough cord and ran short at the end, but it still took over 43 feet of paracord. Made me realize how reasonable widginwackers' are.

A while back, you told me that putting a Lanyard on the Caly jr. would really improve the grip (for some one with bigger hands.) You sure were right! One of your FAF's is doing a great job on my ZDP Caly jr. Thanks, GR!

Glad it's working out for you.

One of the first fobs I did was a permanent(sp?) one on my gray Caly Jr. If you look on the beggining of this thread you'll see it.
