Like zackerty said...man you could be doing a lot worse. I don't smoke, drink or have any other bad habits or hobbies. Knife collecting is pretty safe. After 70 Spydies if this is your first dissagreement you are one of the lucky ones Good Luck

I encourage my wife to buy/order things for herself from the internet(HSN) or department stores and once she does, I get something for myself too....a new .

Tell her how much they appreciate in value.

Then tell her how you can use them for very important tasks.

And finally....why the HELL did you let her know you have 70 of them?!?!

While honesty *is* generally the best policy, if you told her you have 70 knives you are really asking for it. Don't volunteer information.

    Arrow A Closer Look

Dr Lecter it is issues such as this that require a "Closer Look". What I mean by that is: There are things that are not as they appear. The other brothers are right about the Spydercos being an investment. She can't see it from that standpoint because she hasn't been bitten by the Spyder yet. But of all the Spyders I have owned over the last 8 years I can honestly say that I have only lost money on 3 of them. But I have either broke even or incurred a huge appreciation out of the rest of them.

Ask her how many Mutual Funds could make that statement. Or how many stocks on Wall Street can make that statement.

Also like the other brothers eluded to: There are a myriad of other distractions that are not an investment, that are distructive to a person, and that do not educate or edify in any way, shape or form.

You Sir in my opinion have a very wholesome, advantageous hobby/interest.
You can't say that about a wardrobe or a bunch of meaningless trinkets that ladies like to adorn their house with. There you are: The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

An example to perhaps illustrate a point:

A former co-worker has a gambling problem. He spends over $5 - 6K per year on lottery tickets, etc. I inquired of him one day, very respectfully, why he was addicted so. He responded:

"I don't fish, hunt, have a wife, go on vacation, or have any hobbies. This is what I spend my money on. It is something I enjoy."

Sometimes nothing more needs to be said.

One reason I have a large gun safe. They are out of sight most of the time and locked up. She knows I collect them, no idea how many though Other things were mentioned replacing hobby money. For me it's coffee. I don't drink it. I figure even a cup a day at a $1 a day that >$350 that I can use for sharp things. My wife actually likes the more expensive coffees, I'll have to up my estimates and spend more

..."All the better to cut things for you, my Dear"...

Give her one that she might like, and challenge her to use it for a month, and then stop using it....like Sal used to advertise.

You might have to tell HER to stop spending money on Spyderco Edgeware for the Educated!...
