    Surgery Date Set:)

Well the big day is next Friday...so a week and two days till I go under the knife. Found out I will be in surgery for 10-12 hours. Pretty scared about all this. Will be in the hospital for 12 days. Good news though, I may not need radiation or chemo after...like a 75% chance of no other follow up treatments. So I am staying postive and trying to get some sleep. Take Care all

I keep tellin' ya' Craig, yer gonna pull through! As for goin'
under the non-Spydie, don't sweat it I didn't have much
time to think about it when I broke my right tibia ( right knee ).

They "put you under" and you wake up not even sore, thanx to
sister morphine And just think, you'll have a Spydie waitin'
for ya' when you get outta the hospital ( ooo, damn! blew the sur-prise!)

Not that I'd wanna go under the scalpel again - 'cause I wouldn't!

Too bad they can't do the op with a Spydie. Now that would be a story to tell

They will have to remove approx 35-40 percent of my tongue. Will do a skin graft and fix it up. Should be able to talk fine but with a slight heaviness to it. Thanks guys

    Craig -

If you think a "slight heaviness" is bad, I lost part of my palate when I
had my front tooth taken out - I now have partial dentures with a metal
plate ( which, with the U.S.'s Medicaid spend down took me a year
to get ) so I can eat normally, but sound differently when I talk
( it also interfers with my sinuses so I have a nasally sound when I talk ).

    Welcome to the "club"

There are wonderful stories of cancer "survivorship" on the website for the Lance Armstrong Foundation.... www.livestrong.org. The whole site is an extraordinary resource for anyone with cancer, or anyone related to someone with cancer. i lost my Dad last year to gall bladder cancer, and this past summer my l'il sister ( just 40 and with three little kids) was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of breast cancer and had to have a double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery. Cancer changes everything....many times for the better. I know many people who are "thankful" for their cancer. Read Lance Armstong's book "It's Not about the Bike" - it's a remarkable story of a life before and a life now with this illness. Attitude is really important. And so are your friends. And your faith.
    You are in my prayers.

Craig, as always, you will be in my prayers.
I have no doubt that you will prevail and triumph over this obstacle.
